Benefits: Health and Dental Coverage, 12 personal days, 15 days of vacationJob SummaryReporting to the Manager, Investigations, the Investigator is responsible for conducting investigations into complaints and reports related to professional misconduct, competence, and capacity in accordance with legislated requirements and departmental policies.Key ResponsibilitiesReceive and review complaints to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues.Develop investigation plans, identifying relevant issues, required documentation, and key witnesses.Conduct thorough and objective investigations, including:Collecting, analyzing, and assessing information and evidenceIdentifying discrepancies and information gapsConducting telephone and background inquiries (e.g., database, internet searches)Interviewing witnesses and preparing detailed summariesDocumenting all verbal communicationsPrepare investigative documentation (e.g., summons for records, undertakings, case summaries).Organize investigation files, ensure proper disclosure, and redact sensitive information.Provide testimony at disciplinary hearings as required.Maintain current knowledge of applicable legislation, regulatory practices, and investigation techniques.Perform other duties as assigned.Education & ExperienceTwo- or three-year college diploma.1–3 years’ experience in a regulatory environment or the early childhood education sector.Knowledge of investigation techniques and evidence gathering.Understanding of professional regulation and the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007.Knowledge of legal and administrative law principles, including:Procedural fairnessConfidentiality and privacyHuman rightsEvidence lawKey Skills & CompetenciesStrong analytical skills and professional judgment to assess risk and determine relevant investigative issues.Excellent written communication skills to prepare detailed and accurate investigation reports.Strong listening, interviewing, and relationship-building skills to work with courts, police, employers, complainants, and witnesses.Ability to manage competing priorities independently and in a team environment.Resilience, tact, and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive and emotionally charged situations.High attention to detail and time management to meet legislated timelines.Ability to maintain neutrality and confidentiality in all cases.Problem Solving & JudgmentDetermine appropriate interview approaches for reluctant or uncooperative witnesses.Identify when additional information is required and how to obtain it.Locate key witnesses and critical evidence to support investigations.Stakeholder RelationsExplain the complaints and investigation process to employers, members, complainants, public bodies, and government organizations.Gather and provide information while managing sensitive, high-conflict, or emotional interactions in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.Impact of the RoleErrors in investigations may result in:Breaches of confidentialityFailure to meet statutory timelinesInaccurate risk assessmentReputational damageWork EnvironmentDetailed, concentration-intensive work with legislated deadlines.Regular interaction with upset or uncooperative individuals.Regular exposure to disturbing and sensitive case material.Minimal physical demands; primarily computer-based work.**Staffworks Canada may use AI-enabled tools to support recruitment activities while respecting privacy and employment regulations.**
