
Environmental Project Advisor - Environment & Climate Resilience

- Conduct in-depth research and analysis that will support environment and climate reviews for reports submitted to Council and senior leadership, including summarizing relevant information from previous reports
- Apply a broad understanding of various environmental considerations (such as climate resilience, air, water, soil, and ecology) to develop plans for these reviews
- Engage with project teams and report writers across the organization, using a client-service approach to help them embed environmental protection and climate resilience into their work
- Manage, maintain, and improve tracking systems for the Environment and Climate Review process, communicating with various departments to ensure conformance
- Work with Senior Environmental Project Managers within the Strategy and Planning Unit to build capacity across the organization by developing and supporting training sessions for internal staff
- Provide analytical and project coordination support for other section projects (as required), including research, information synthesis, and assisting with engagement events to foster collaboration
- University degree in business administration, public administration, environmental sciences or a related field
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of: strategic and operational business planning, working with corporate performance measures and budgets, and business case development. Leadership and project management experience within a public sector environment would be beneficial
- Experience and/or training in a wide range of environmental subjects including climate resilience, environmental regulations, water quality, air quality, energy management, carbon accounting, emissions modelling, land development, or environmental management systems
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex environmental scientific information and translate it effectively for project teams and decision-makers
- Strong political acumen with the ability to navigate politically sensitive situations, building an environment of trust and respect, and fostering positive change
- Proven planning and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively, often with constant deadline pressures
- Knowledge of climate change mitigation, adaptation and environmental risk assessment processes
- Continuously advocating for environmental and climate change and improvements in a manner that aligns with City Council’s priorities and the City’s plans, policies, and strategies
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental legislation and regulations, as well as local, regional, national, and global sustainability and climate resilience issues.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams and collaborate with a variety of partners to gather and share information
- Experience and/or training in a wide range of environmental subjects, such as climate change, climate adaptation, environmental regulations, water quality, energy management, and carbon accounting
- Experience in contract management and procurement.
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of Google Sheets.

- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
- The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
