Job Description:We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team in Toronto, Ontario. In this senior-level role, you will play a critical part in managing payroll operations for a large organization, ensuring accuracy and compliance in all processes. This is a long-term contract position offering an opportunity to work within a unionized workplace and contribute to a dynamic payroll environment.Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the accurate processing of payroll for a large workforce, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with team members, including clerks and analysts, to maintain smooth payroll operations and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Manage data entry and validation for Workday systems, including testing and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Handle payroll deductions, garnishments, and benefit-related functions, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Support timesheet and attendance management processes, working closely with designated personnel.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly payroll reports, identifying and addressing inconsistencies.
  • Provide expertise on payroll matters in a unionized environment, ensuring adherence to collective agreements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in payroll operations.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in payroll management, preferably within a large organization.
  • Proficiency with payroll and accounting systems such as ADP Workforce Now, Ceridian, and Dayforce.
  • Strong understanding of payroll functions, including deductions, benefits, and tax accounting.
  • Familiarity with unionized work environments and collective agreement compliance.
  • Experience with Workday systems, including data management and testing.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations and best practices.
