BON in a Box is an open source community-contributed program to analyze biodiversity data and produce information that can be used in policy decisions.
  • Communicates and collaborates with diverse stakeholders to assist in the development and document analysis pipelines for calculating Essential Biodiversity Variables and Indicators.
  • Reviews and tests analysis pipelines that are contributed by BON in a Box collaborators. This includes understanding the analysis with support from publications, the team and the contributor, testing pipelines with different parameters, fixing R and python code so it runs, and making sure that the pipelines are well documented.
  • Regularly tests and maintains existing analysis pipelines. This will involve running pipelines in the tool and fixing any code that no longer works due to package or software updates.
  • Assists with finding relevant grants.
Qualifications:
  • Strong background in ecological theory and methods.
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python coding and experience with biodiversity data analysis.
  • Rapid learner.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to advancing biodiversity conservation efforts
Education/Experience:
  • Experience analyzing geospatial data.
  • Experience in R and/or Python coding, Julia an asset.
  • Pursuing a degree in biology, data science, or similar field.
  • Must be approved as a Work Study Student, McGill University.
Location: This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
