Accommodations are available upon request for candidates participating in the recruitment and selection process.Summary of responsibilitiesReporting to the Manager of Outpatient and Geriatric Mental Health Services, the Addiction Counsellor works collaboratively with individuals experiencing substance use issues and/or concurrent mental health problems that affect their functioning in some areas such as at home, school/work, and/or in the community. The Addiction Counsellor will primarily conduct screening, intake, and brief assessment with clients referred to the service and will work collaboratively with both internal and external programs to link individuals with the most appropriate service.Requirements of the job
  • College diploma in Human Services Field
  • Minimum 3 years experience working with individuals experiencing substance use and/or concurrent mental health issues
  • Understanding of the etiological factors that contribute to addictions and mental health
  • Demonstrated screening, intake, brief assessment, and treatment planning skills with a variety of age groups
  • Experience in utilizing variety of counselling and psychotherapeutic tools, both individually and in group format, including prescriptive programs, problem solving, emotional regulation, techniques for coping with anxiety and stress, social skill development, milieu therapy, fostering life skills, crisis intervention, and coping with acute situations
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with team members and community partners
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
  • Valid driver's license and access to own transportation
  • Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French) - and testing completed
