Here, you can apply your passion and collaborate with top environmental professionals on work that's vital to our clients and the communities they serve.Join a team that's naturally committed to the environment.Your OpportunityStantec is currently seeking a highly motivated, personable, and organized Intermediate Wildlife Biologist to work in a multi-disciplinary technical team on environmental regulations across a variety of sectors, championing project planning, data collection & analysis, and technical reporting. The position will be based in our Calgary or Edmonton, AB office, with the possibility to be based in other Alberta offices.Your Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a variety of wildlife surveys and habitat assessments, and provide technical support related to wildlife mitigation and monitoring.
- Prepare technical reports and relevant sections of environmental assessments in Alberta (and elsewhere in Canada).
- Work in a collaborative team environment in wilderness and outdoor settings and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Lead and participate in data entry, analysis, and report preparation.
- Coach and mentor junior staff.
- Strong understanding of provincial and federal wildlife legislation/regulations and guidelines.
- Demonstrated experience conducting wildlife sweeps and wildlife field surveys in Alberta.
- Strong bird identification skills (sight and sound).
- Previous experience supporting renewable projects (e.g., bat and bird migration, Post Construction Monitoring Programs) is an asset.
- Scoping and developing budgets for small and large projects related to wildlife surveys and assessments.
- Able to work in a dynamic environment under deadlines.
- Demonstrated time-management skills and ability to deliver high-quality work products in a schedule-driven environment.
- Proven technical, communication, writing and organization skills.
- Excellent communication, organization and writing skills.
- Proficient in MS Office applications.
- Able to lift 50lbs and endure long days of physically and mentally challenging field work while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude.
- Excellent navigational skills and ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in the field.
- Good driving record and valid Class 5 driver's license required.
- May be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and maintain that status for the duration of employment based on specific client requirements
