
Senior Specialist, Enterprise Data Governance

- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams on data governance policies, projects, and contentious or emerging issues.
- Provide subject matter expertise and advice on the application of data governance policies, processes, and standards including but not limited to metadata management, data quality, master data management, data access and sharing, and open data to ensure successful outcomes.
- Handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities independently to support the enterprise data governance strategy; identify emerging issues and urgency of immediate demands
- Prepare, research, develop, and disseminates information (e.g., policy, key issues/briefing materials) and communicate ideas related to data governance initiatives and topics.
- Coordinate, support, and attend council and committee meetings including confirming agenda, reviewing, materials, and following up on action items.
- Develop and deliver data governance communications and education (e.g., briefing notes, quick reference guides, FAQs, presentations, newsletters, and web content).
- Actively seek new opportunities to embed data governance into the business to increase awareness, drive adoption, and improve organizational maturity.
- Build positive working relationships with internal and external partners; continually improve professional expertise, knowledge transfer and acts as a brand ambassador for data governance.
- Liaise with team members and stakeholders to discuss data governance issues and recommend corrective actions for remediation.
- Facilitate the coordination of data sharing and access requests and/or requests from the public for open data.
- Contribute to the development and ongoing evolution of data governance strategies and the organizational data and analytics governance framework.
- Support the development and delivery of data governance training and education.
- In-depth understanding of data governance as a data discipline and the theory behind it, including principles from the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA-DMBOK).
- Proficiency in business intelligence tools such as SQL, Power BI and Excel for data profiling, reporting, and dashboard creation.
- Understanding of Cloud, Big Data technologies, architectural concepts - data lake, data warehouse, relational databases, data ingestion, ETL etc.
- Experience in process automation using Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps).
- Possess good business acumen and proven experience building and maintaining positive cross-organizational stakeholder relationships.
- Analytical skills to analyze business needs and identify and assess data governance risks and organizational impacts and develop recommendations for corrective action and remediation.
- Strong knowledge of provincial and/or federal policies, directives, and legislation relating to Artificial Intelligence, Data Management, Open Data, and Data Governance.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate and present complex issues clearly and concisely.
- Experience writing, implementing, and communicating presentations, guides, reports, newsletters, policies, terms of reference etc.
- A strong believer in quality and excellence. Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to work in a team environment, take initiative and work independently.
