- Job Description
- Lead development of preliminary and detailed design drawings (e.g. SLD, general arrangements, elevations, installation details, etc) for HV and MV substations for Utilities and industrial installations;
- Perform/Review electrical calculations and equipment sizing for various electrical equipment such as power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, busbars, etc.;
- Perform/Review sizing calculation of power cable and cable tray/trenches routing design;
- Prepare technical reports and equipment specifications (HV and MV equipment) for procurement;
- Review of manufacturers' equipment drawings;
- Design and calculation of AC and DC auxiliary systems including single line diagram, load calculations, distribution drawings, voltage drop calculations, battery sizing. etc.;
- Develop schedules and engineering cost estimates for proposals;
- Produce/Review bills of materials;
- Perform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing conditions, inspect construction prepare site survey reports, and participate in commissioning activities (occasionally)
- Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, and utilities
- Ensure designs conform to all applicable codes, client standards and CIMA's quality management system
- Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders either internal or external
- Assist in training junior staff
- Perform and assist with additional duties and tasks based on project requirements
- Collaborate with the client's engineering team in addressing challenging, complex, or unusual engineering issues, providing solutions-oriented support to effectively manage and mitigate engineering risks.
- Profile
- Minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in electrical layout, preferably with large canadian Utilities
- A bachelor degree diploma in electrical engineering (power system specialization preferred).
- Registered member of Engineer and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or be eligible to register
- Registered member of Engineer and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or be eligible to register
- Advanced experience with electrical design for electric utility substations
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE and Canadian Utility standards
- Valid Canadian Driver's License
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Knowledge of French is an asset
- Excellent problem solving skills, capability to work independently and in a team, detail oriented, and self-motivated
