For more information on diversity and inclusion, please visit: .Operations under the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) generate billions of dollars of revenue annually through markups and gaming revenue that contributes to funding government services, programs, and Alberta's charities and community organizations.Role ResponsibilitiesThe Alcohol, Cannabis and Gaming Policy (ACGP) team is growing and looking for your analytical and policy expertise! We have two exciting Manager positions available to support our initiatives (1) Manager, Cannabis and Liquor Policy and (2) Manager, Gaming and Horse Racing Policy.Reporting to the Director, you will lead a policy team to develop key government policy and legislative initiatives in Alberta's gaming, horse racing, liquor, and cannabis industries. Policy development in these areas is is highly complex and will require your strong political acumen, as these industries are dynamic, and emerging issues can create strong public reactions.Key responsibilities for both manager positions include project management and leading a team of policy analysts to:
- Develop options related to key ministry policy issues in keeping with all relevant guidelines and/or legislated requirements.
- Take a leadership role in cross-divisional policy issues, coordinating and leading multidisciplinary teams to generate strategic solutions.
- Work collaboratively and liaise regularly with relevant GoA Ministries and other stakeholders to ensure Ministry, cross-Ministry, and Federal-Provincial-Territorial planning, reporting, policy and special-project requirements are met in a timely and effective manner.
- Lead the development of briefing materials, Cabinet packages, white papers, policy papers, information binders, etc., as required.
- A university degree in Economics, Business, Finance or a related field. Master's degree or higher is preferable.
- Minimum four years' related experience in undertaking strategic policy development.
- Related experience and expertise.
- Relevant strengths and skills; and
- Reasons for interest in the position.
- Experience with government systems (e.g., ARTS), the policy cycle, policy development and approval processes.
o Experience drafting Cabinet-bound briefing documents; and
o Work experience in public policy. * Experience planning and leading policy projects, project management, and facilitating meetings with government staff and with external stakeholders.
- Experience leading a team through the development of policy projects.
- Experience preparing policy documents, reports, briefings, stakeholder correspondence, presentations, and providing recommendations to senior leadership.
- Awareness of relevant government statutes and legislation.
- Experience reviewing and summarizing annual reports.
- Experience with board/agency appointment processes.
- Political acumen.
- Some financial background in revenue forecasting.
