Our team works for a wide range of clients located across Eastern Canada, including the mining, coastal infrastructure, and renewable energy industries.Responsibilities:
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Manage ecological databases and analyze field data using preset tools, methods, and formats. Work independently to collate and interpret data to support technical reporting and environmental planning. Determine ecological constraints applicable to infrastructure design projects.
  • Sampling and Testing: Conduct wetland assessments and flora and fauna inventories to support ecological evaluations. Collect a range of environmental samples for laboratory testing and perform testing in accordance with statutory frameworks and best practices to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Solutions Analysis: Analyze specific ecological and environmental problems to identify effective solutions. Apply technical and professional judgment to support impact assessments and habitat planning.
  • Insights and Reporting: Prepare and coordinate the completion of data-driven reports and analytics for internal and external stakeholders. Complete environmental impact assessments and permit applications with clear and accurate reporting.
  • Habitat Management: Conduct ecological characterizations and contribute to habitat compensation programs. Support the management and conservation of saltwater and freshwater habitats with a focus on environmental sustainability.
  • Bid Solicitation/Request for Proposal/Tender Preparation: Gather information and resources to draft and complete standard requests for proposals (RFPs), tenders (RFTs), and bid solicitations. Collaborate in the preparation of proposals and support business development initiatives related to ecological services.
  • Client & Customer Management (External): Participate in communities of practice to build expertise in ecological consulting and environmental compliance. Share knowledge and contribute to best practices within the team and broader organization.
  • Community of Practice Management: Participate in a community of practice in a defined area of expertise or consulting to begin to build own expertise.
  • Project Management: Conduct environmental monitoring and develop monitoring and management plans. Work within established project plans to achieve ecological and environmental objectives.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow organizational HSE policies and procedures to ensure safe fieldwork and environmental stewardship. Identify and mitigate risks to personal and team safety; escalate concerns as needed.
  • Personal Capability Building: Engage in formal and informal training, coaching, and development planning. Maintain current knowledge of ecological science, environmental regulations, and industry best practices through ongoing education and professional development.
Your contribution to the team:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology (a master's degree will be an asset). A college diploma in wildlife management or a related field combined with years of experience may be considered equivalent.
  • Two to five years of professional experience in biology.
  • Good knowledge of identification keys in fauna and botany as well as Nova Scotia guidance and methods for the characterization and delineation of wetlands and watercourses.
  • Experience in conducting fish and fish habitat assessments, avifauna, and herpetofauna inventories.
  • Good knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation.
  • Very good technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency in French; bilingualism (French and English) will be an asset.
  • Availability for short-term travel.
