- Contributes to the development and implementation of strategic Occupational Health and Safety objectives and key performance indicators for the organization.
- Provides technical leadership, oversight and direction for the development and maintenance of safety program elements (policies, procedures, processes, tools and training) that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and best practices, while considering operational needs and constraints.
- Leads and manages continuous improvement of an effective and efficient safety program, including fire and life safety, ergonomics and occupational hygiene components.
- Assists and advises operational business units in the implementation of relevant safety programs.
- Coordinates and collaborates with operating departments to address feedback, issues or identified risks with regards to the enterprise safety program.
- Manages baseline assessments, safety audits and quality checks to ensure compliance with safety management system elements.
- Recommends corrective actions to address compliance gaps, escalating complex issues to the Senior Manager or Director, as needed.
- Oversees and/or leads field investigations of safety incidents, identifying root causes, reporting on trends and recommending corrective actions.
- Builds and maintains strong working relationships with cross-functional departments / business units (Operations, Capital Project Group, Human Resources, etc.) to ensure understanding of health and safety objectives, legislation and program requirements to support the achievement of business objectives and ensure regulatory / legislative compliance.
- Monitors the implementation of assigned safety programs for compliance with regulatory and internal standards, and makes recommendations to improve safety performance.
- Provides leadership, oversight, coaching and direction to a team of safety professionals.
- Manages the team budget and monitors progress to ensure objectives are delivered on time and within budgetary limits.
- Contributes to the overall due diligence of the organization, administration of the corporate internal responsibility system, and maintenance and enhancement of the enterprise health and safety program.
- Completes other tasks relevant to the role, as assigned.
- Completion of a degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Engineering, or a related discipline - or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated years' of progressive experience leading and monitoring the operational development of safety services and environmental management systems.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or equivalent designation is an asset.
- A valid Ontario Class "G" driver's license is required.
