Situated in rural Alberta, the campus is home to approximately 900 students and offers bachelor's and master's degree programs offered by the U of A's Augustana Faculty and the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, respectively. Their spiritual and practical relationships to the land create a rich heritage and ongoing model for our learning and our life as a community.PositionThe Department of Social Sciences at the Augustana Faculty of the University of Alberta invites applicants for a full-time Academic Teaching Staff member in Management and Business Economics for a three-year contract with the potential for renewal.The successful candidate will play a key role in the evolution of our Bachelor of Management program at our teaching-intensive campus. The successful candidate will teach 8 courses per year (4 per semester), including: AUMGT 100 Introduction to Business; AUMGT 200 Introduction to Management; AUMGT 330 Marketing; and AUMGT 490 Business Policy and Strategy. The ability to teach courses in Organizational Theory, Research Methods, Rural Development, or Non-Profit Management would be an asset. Experience with Work-Integrated Learning would also be beneficial.As the rural campus of the University of Alberta, your work will have a meaningful impact on a broad cross section of people-from students and stakeholders to community and industry leaders - all wanting to discover and generate solutions that make the world healthier, safer, stronger, and more equitable. The Management program is in a period of renewal, part of which includes the development of a Co-op program, and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a strong rural-based management degree.DutiesReporting to the Chair, the position will include the following responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent instruction in undergraduate courses in the Bachelor of Management program, including those listed above.
  • Design course syllabi, course materials, prepare exams or evaluations tools and assign grades.
  • Evaluate student performance progress and provide appropriate and timely feedback according to department protocols.
  • Demonstrate scholarship and remain current and competent in the discipline or profession by keeping class material relevant to the needs of the current student.
  • Develop curriculum and material for new courses.
  • Facilitate student engagement (e.g., involvement with student clubs; case teams).
  • Assist with the development of the co-op program.
Qualifications
  • Applicants must have graduate-level training (Master's level or higher) that is relevant to the discipline, combined with a minimum 5 years professional expertise in the field.
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
