Description :Are you looking for a dynamic role, which focuses on making the community safer and more inclusive? The Mustard Seed Edmonton is looking for a Campus Navigator who will work closely with the Edmonton HELP Navigator Manager and University of Alberta Protective Services.Working in tandem with the MacEwan Protective Services, the Campus Navigator assists them in supporting vulnerable persons, either through information sharing and problem solving or by directly working with the vulnerable person on a case plan and assisting with service coordination, system navigation and diversion.Campus Navigator works on campus, serving vulnerable populations that come to the campus, as well as working with students and engaging in some case management.Employment Type: Full time, Fixed Term (May 2026 to February 2027)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00AM – 4:00PM

RFR #: 1977MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDiversion and Client Case Management
  • Respond to assist patrol in supporting vulnerable community members with a basic needs assessment and provide subsequent consultation on appropriate resources or referrals;
  • Proactive community outreach, providing emergency supplies and resource information;
  • Engage with clients at the scene of a call, at the campus, or via telephone;
  • Responsible for day-to-day operations, including supply acquisition and management;
  • Facilitate the provision of services by navigating clients to appropriate community resources;
  • Meet and attend client meetings and appointments as required;
  • Work collaboratively with campus peace officers, other team members, and community partners to develop and manage individual case plans;
  • Advocate for clients when appropriate;
  • Prioritize tasks, take initiative, and maintain flexibility in case plans.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Ensures documentation and client files are completed, organized, and up to date, as per Grant MacEwan Protective Services business rules;
  • Submit weekly highlights or reports as required;
  • Provide input into program evaluation upon request;
  • Improve overall system performance by identifying and addressing systemic gaps and redundancies.
Community Involvement and Leadership
  • Actively participate in both internal and external meetings, ensuring presence as required;
  • Cultivate robust relationships with our valued community partners;
  • Serve as a representative of Grant MacEwan Protective Services at community events, acting under the guidance of Grant MacEwan Protective Services leadership;
  • Engage in continuous professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge;
  • Coordinate and oversee campus community hub events and initiatives;
  • Deliver informative presentations to the campus community, enlightening them about the comprehensive range of services available;
  • Serve as a bridge or liaison between agencies, stakeholders, and community partners, fostering collaboration to mitigate crime and social disorder;
  • Facilitate meaningful conversations and organize impactful community events;
  • Coordinate training sessions and conferences aimed at educating and empowering the wider community;
  • Empower vulnerable individuals by providing them with a voice and advocating for their needs;
  • Foster community education and engagement, promoting understanding and active participation in community initiatives.
Agency
  • Complete agency-specific administrative tasks;
  • Attend agency-directed training and meetings.
Other
  • Other duties related to the Grant MacEwan Protective Services Program, as designated by Grant MacEwan Protective Services leadership.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Degree or Diploma in social or human services or a related field, or a minimum of 3 years relevant experience working with complex populations, youth, and families. It is expected that they maintain and are in good standing with any relevant professional bodies they may be members of;
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of community resources, knowledge of issues faced by individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty and dealing with mental health conditions and substance use;
  • Strong leadership, teamwork, and effective interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Experience working with, and an understanding of the unique challenges that Indigenous and multicultural individuals and families face;
  • Prior experience completing professional documentation;

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Travel around the city as required
  • Moderate physical effort needed to successfully accomplish the essential job functions, such as keyboarding and entering data in databases
  • Fast paced and demanding working environment
  • Moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and carrying
  • Moderate to extreme mental effort required to respond to intense situations, including traumatic incidents
  • Exposed to hazards like that of all law enforcement – violence, criminal activity, rude clientele, etc.
  • Time in excess of regular working hours may be required on occasion, with time off in lieu or overtime allocated as approved by EPS leadership consistent with agency specific policies
  • Coverage may include 7 days a week and require flexibility within hours of operation.
  • Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behavior up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
  • Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
