- Provide strategic and practical employment law counsel to Human Resources and business leaders on a wide range of workplace matters, including terminations, accommodations, human rights, workplace investigations, policy interpretation, and employee relations risk management.
- Advise on high‑risk and complex employment decisions, balancing legal risk, business objectives, employee experience, and reputational considerations.
- Lead and manage employment‑related litigation, including wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, human rights applications, and other employment disputes, from early case assessment through resolution.
- Develop and execute litigation strategy for employment matters, including oversight of pleadings, discovery, mediation, arbitration, and trial preparation, as applicable.
- Manage corporate and commercial litigation, ensuring alignment with enterprise risk and governance standards.
- Retain, instruct, and oversee external counsel, including setting strategy, managing budgets, monitoring performance, and driving cost‑effective outcomes across all litigation files.
- Proactively identify litigation trends and emerging legal risks and provide guidance to mitigate exposure through policy development, process improvements, and early dispute resolution.
- Serve as a trusted legal advisor to senior leaders by translating complex legal issues into clear, actionable advice to support informed and defensible decision‑making.
- Collaborate with internal legal colleagues and cross‑functional partners to ensure consistent, coordinated, and enterprise‑aligned legal advice and litigation management practices.
- JD or LLB from an accredited institution and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- 5+ years of post‑call experience, with significant experience in employment law and employment / corporate litigation.
- Demonstrated experience managing litigation files and external counsel.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian employment law and civil litigation procedures.
- Experience advising senior leaders and managing sensitive, high‑risk matters.
