
Duty Avalanche Forecaster

- Lead team meetings for the daily snow safety operations.
- Lead avalanche control routes to mitigate hazards within the resort.
- Collect and maintain good records of pertinent data, including weather, snowpack, and avalanche observations.
- Establish and maintain appropriate boundaries, signage, and closures to control access to avalanche terrain.
- Mitigate risk through daily risk assessments, control measures, and accident investigations.
- Provide first aid and participate in lift evacuations and other Ski Patrol tasks.
- Conduct training for the Ski Patrol in both pre-season and continuous/ongoing presentations.
- Develop and maintain a staff of Avalanche Technicians congruent with the Program Manager
- Maintain magazine inventories and complete daily magazine checks.
- Assist with inventory and maintenance of all equipment that pertains to the avalanche control program.
- Provide timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and deficiencies to the relevant departments and personnel.
- Collaborate with and assist the Snow Safety Program Manager, Lead Avalanche Forecasters, and Patrol Managers in achieving operational goals
- 5+ years of industry experience – Snow Safety, Ski Patrol, Mechanized Ski Operations
- Canadian Avalanche Association Operations Level 2
- Canadian Avalanche Association Professional Member (can be waived in certain circumstances)
- WorkSafe BC Blasting Certificate: Hand Charging.
- 80-hour first aid course – OFA 3, NUEC 3, Licensed EMR, PHEC
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Valid Driver’s License
- Neat, alert, punctual and dependable, acting as a leader and mentor to young professionals.
- Excellent customer service skills, especially in high-stress environments.
- Maintain professional conduct when knowingly acting as a company representative, on or off duty.
- Reliability to work in a confidential capacity.
- Prepared to work flexible schedules: weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours.
