Brief Description:Our employer is a Jewish day school. They are looking for a School Social Worker to play a vital role in supporting the social, emotional, and mental well-being of students in Grade 5 to Grade 8. Working closely with classroom teachers, administrators, parents, and community resources, the Social Worker provides short-term counselling, crisis intervention, classroom programs, and parent education to foster student development and success.This is a LTO position to cover a 3-month parental leave from April 4, 2026 to June 24, 2026, with the opportunity for extension into the 2026/2027 academic year.Job Function:Student Support:
  • Provide short-term counselling to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges, with a focus on anxiety, emotional regulation, and peer relationships.
  • Support students in maintaining healthy peer relationships and developing resilience.
  • Facilitate student groups focusing on social skills, emotional intelligence, and mental wellness.
  • Observe students as needed and collaborate with teachers and administrators to implement intervention strategies.
  • Coordinate and facilitate student leadership and mental health programs.
Parent and Family Collaboration:
  • Consult with parents to provide guidance and practical support for their child's social and emotional development.
  • Assist families in accessing community-based mental health resources and support services.
  • Offer parent education programs on topics such as child development, social-emotional learning, and effective parenting strategies.
School-Wide Initiatives and Collaboration:
  • Develop and implement school-wide programs that promote student wellness and pro-social behaviours.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to address students' social and emotional needs within the classroom setting.
  • Provide professional development for teachers and staff on mental health awareness and effective strategies for student support.
Confidentiality & Ethical Responsibilities:
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and behavioural data.
  • Adhere to all school policies and legal requirements, including duty-to-report obligations regarding child safety and well-being.

Job Requirement:Qualifications and Skills
  • Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) or related field.
  • Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
  • Knowledge or experience with the Child and Family Services Act as well as Jewish Family and Child Services (JF&CS)
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting, preferably in a Jewish Day School environment.
  • Strong understanding of childhood development, mental health, and family dynamics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources and programs related to mental health and well-being
  • Familiarity with Jewish values, traditions, and cultural considerations is an asset.
  • Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada and authorized to work in childcare and primary/secondary school teaching occupations.
