The Fairview Campus is a focal point of the community and houses our Trades, Harley and Animal Health programs. This smaller campus has a vibrant, family like atmosphere that offers its students and staff a dynamic working space.The RoleThe Mental Health Counsellor will provide short-term mental health/crisis counselling at the NWP Fairview campus, as well as make referrals to the Psychologist and community resources, as necessary. This position also provides mental health educational programming to staff and students as directed by the NWP Mental Health Services department.This is a part-time (0.5 ), 17.5 hours/week, temporary leave replacement position until June 30, 2026. Salary may range from ($2795.83 - $3823.50) per month. The position may be required to adjust hours to work in the evenings at times and to accommodate schedules for students outside regular class hours. There may be an opportunity to work on a casual (hourly) basis for the suitable candidate rather than part-time.Key duties include:
  • Providing professional and timely mental health counselling services to students at NWP Fairview.
  • Developing preventative and educational mental health programming to students and staff at NWP Fairview in collaboration with the Campus Psychologist.
  • Offering a variety of mental health services to reduce the risks to student health and provide the student with options to be successful.
  • Liaise with other mental health care providers in NWP's stewardship region.

Professional designation and licensure with appropriate professional body is required (Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta).Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
  • Ability to maintain an active caseload of students for short-term counselling in accordance with current best practices, professional ethics, and standards of practice;
  • Intake and risk assessment skills and the ability to respond to crisis;
  • Knowledge of external resources for referral to specialized services when required.
  • Experience with the delivery of mental health educational programming
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate after hours appointment times.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the organization;
  • A high level of integrity, professionalism and accountability;
  • Creative problem solving and critical thinking skills; and
  • A Class 5 Driver's License is required.
  • Able to work for at least 14 hours per week at the Fairview Campus.
