The incumbent will performs core duties and responsibilities such as reviewing patient charts for completion of medical intake, reviewing patient charts to classify patient health status according to ASA status, reviewing patient charts to determine if further clarification of medical conditions is needed, communicating with appropriate interdisciplinary team to clarify medical conditions, balancing responsibilities to prioritize expediting patient care, and serving as a resource to faculty, instructors, staff by providing medical guidance, in-person or remotely by phone (synchronously) or remotely by email (asynchronously), where needed.This is a term opportunity ending September 2027.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assessing the physical and mental condition of patients to determine medical needs
  • Using assessment checklists when screening patients
  • Acts to expediate patient clearance following medical intake
  • Identifying patient ASA status
  • Determining if there is a life-threatening illness and independently applying appropriate interventions
  • Probing for information to establish needs
  • Recording patient data
  • Compising and reviewing medical letters
  • Providing detailed information to physicians regarding patient needs and background history as required
  • Handling sensitive and/or confidential information
  • Updating and maintaining Patient Medical Records (immunization records)
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Confirming appointments
  • Exercising extreme care to prevent serious physical or emotional injury or harm
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing. Current registration, in good standing with no practice restrictions, as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Liability insuracne or membership in a professional association with offers liability insurance (i.e. RNAO).
  • Minimum five years' experience in nursing in clinica practice in primary health (i.e. Family Practice, Community Nursing, Occupation Nursing, Emergency).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must have current BCLS.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to utilize the nursing process in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care
  • Demonstrated ability to cooperate and facilitative relationships when working with interdisciplinary team (Oral Diagnosis, Oral Medicine, Oral Radiology, Emergency, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail
  • Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills with experience with Electronic Health Records and Microsoft Office.
  • Understands and demonstrates College of Nurses Standards of Practice guidelines including but not limited to ethics, confidentiality, and documentation
  • Understands the role of Health and Safety within the University
  • Understands and abides by the concepts of PHIPA
