NRSI is looking for a motivated individual with expertise in environmental impact studies, ecological monitoring, and policy analysis to join our growing team. The successful applicant will be based out of our Waterloo, Ontario office and will be expected to regularly contribute to office-based tasks, with occasional field work/site visits. Field surveys/site visits will be completed primarily in southern Ontario. The primary duties and responsibilities for this role will include:
  • Preparing proposals and managing and tracking project budgets.
  • Obtaining regulatory permits and ensuring compliance.
  • Overseeing data entry and analysis.
  • Coordination of field survey components, including scheduling during appropriate timing windows and weather conditions.
  • Completing ecological monitoring and environmental impact study reports following applicable regulatory guidelines and industry standards.
  • Communicating with clients and agencies.
Your Education:
  • A degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences. Similar educational experience will also be considered.
Requirements:
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle insured for work purposes.
  • Over 18 years old in order to drive rental and/or NRSI company vehicles.
  • Able to reliably commute on a daily basis to the work location.
  • Experience (minimum 2 years) with Ontario’s environmental policy frameworks and in screening for wildlife habitats.
  • Familiarity with preparing environmental impact study reports.
  • Ability to work independently on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail, including the maintenance of well-organized and detailed field notes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in report writing, data entry, and analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to continual improvement of technical abilities.
Assets:
  • Project management experience, including proposal and report writing, budget preparation/tracking, data management, entry and analysis and client and agency correspondence.
  • Certification in Ecological Land Classification or the Ontario Wetland Evaluation System.
  • Experienced in habitat restoration, waterbody assessment, and/or completing surveys for wildlife (e.g., pollinators/insects, herpetofauna, birds, or mammals) in Ontario.
  • Experienced with permitting under the Ontario Endangered Species Act.

Salary: $26-$31 per hour commensurate on experience, as a portion of the overall compensation package.
