Job Description:OverviewHerzog Railroad Services of Canada, Ltd. is currently looking for experienced MPM Operators to operate and maintain our fleet of specialty rail maintenance equipment. This unique career opportunity is ideally suited for “Road Warriors” interested in nationwide travel. This opportunity requires extensive travel throughout Canada. Our operators work alongside CN and CP Railroads across Canada. Our employees go wherever and whenever needed to ensure the highest customer satisfaction and quality work. Our employees receive paid training, daily travel allowance, and a competitive salary, as well as a supplemental benefits package.Duties and Responsibilities:*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
  • Operate specialized heavy equipment
  • Work day, night and/or weekend shifts
  • Work extended hours (time and a half over 40hrs/wk.)
  • Be on call and ready to mobilize in short notice.
  • Drive lengthy distances to reach jobsites (coast to coast travel potential)
  • Work in sometimes remote locations
  • Perform routine mechanical maintenance to equipment
  • Perform light duty mechanical diagnostics and repairs (hoses, fittings, wiring, fuses, etc.)
  • Use of laptop and Microsoft office products daily.
  • Use of wireless internet devices, touch screen devices and email use.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Travel Requirements:
  • Our operators go the extra mile to meet our customer’s needs. Extensive travel time is required in this position. Up to 70% of time OR MORE may be spent away from home on an annual basis. Extended periods of travel working in various locations should be expected. While our operators are compensated accordingly, this commitment to travel time should be given proper consideration prior to applying for this position.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous equipment operating experience required (excavator, farm tractor, truck driving).
  • Agriculture background/farm equipment background preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude preferred.
  • Previous Railroad experience is desirable but not required.
  • Must provide steel toe boots (safety vest, glasses and hardhat provided).
  • Must be able to cover travel expenses (if required) until 1st paycheck is processed (approximately 7-10 after start date).
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on annual basis.
  • Company provides required Personal Protective Equipment including a Safety Boots Allowance Program.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
  • Subject to Driver's Abstract report review.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements for this position.
  • Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and transfer up to 10 feet.
  • Regularly push and pull with forces up to 50 pounds.
  • Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances.
  • Regularly use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, and holding with forces up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend steps with a height of 28 inches while carrying 25 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend a 7-rung ladder while carrying 25 pounds.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Frequently bend, crouch, stand, and sit for an extended time.
