Develops implements and evaluates Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness programs aimed at preventing employee illness and disability arising out of their employment. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.On a practical level, you will
- Provides education and training regarding musculoskeletal disorder prevention strategies for staff
- Manages and coordinates MSD, Safety and other relevant database and training programs
- Performs work site evaluations, ergonomic assessments and physical demand analyses; makes recommendations to appropriate personnel for appropriate modifications of a job or work site to decrease the risk of injury
- Provides Client lifting and transfer education for staff involved in patient care and/or transportation
- Develops and updates Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention programs for all areas of the hospital
- Assists in the RTW planning process assisting with documentation and communication as required
- Collaborates with Ability Management Specialists and other members of the multidisciplinary team
- Schedules and participates in meetings
- Assists in incident investigations in collaboration with the Safety Specialist
- Planning of Wellness initiatives to improve staff physical and psychological health
- Other duties as assigned to support the OHSW Team.
- Masters or Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy or related profession
- Member of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, Member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario or related professional body
- Applied knowledge of MSD prevention and ergonomics
- Applied knowledge of adult learning principles in a healthcare workplace
- Good organizational skills, including superior time management skills
- Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, managers and unions
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written
- Ability to meet and prioritize deadlines and work under pressure
- Working knowledge and experience in a unionized and non-unionized environment
- Project management skills an asset
- Excellent computer skills required
