
Payroll and Total Rewards Manager

- Oversee end-to-end payroll administration for hourly and salaried employees across the organization.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian and provincial payroll regulations, tax filings, and statutory remittances.
- Design, implement, and maintain internal payroll and total rewards controls and compliance. Conduct regular reconciliations and audits in partnership with stakeholders.
- Prepare payroll reporting and audit documentation to ensure year-end compliance.
- Strengthen internal control frameworks to safeguard payroll data integrity and benefits administration.
- Design and deliver competitive Total Rewards strategies aligned with market data, organizational goals, and talent strategies.
- Lead annual compensation cycles, including merit increases, bonuses, benchmarking, and job evaluations.
- Oversee benefits, vacation, and all other total rewards programs, ensuring alignment and impact across all employee segments.
- Partner with Talent and HR team to support salary adjustments, benefit enhancements, and lifecycle compensation events.
- Participation in union contract negotiations, providing calculations and costs for various scenarios presented.
- Collaborate with Finance to ensure cost estimation, annual budgeting, accrual tracking, and reconciliation of payroll and benefits.
- Work with external vendors to ensure plan competitiveness, accuracy of billing, and contract management.
- Maintain appropriate documentation, governance, and data integrity for audit readiness.
- Develop and deliver clear employee communications on total rewards programs, policies, and updates.
- Champion awareness and understanding of rewards and payroll practices through ongoing education and touchpoints.
- Partner with leaders and the HR team to ensure equitable and informed conversations on compensation recommendations, salary adjustments, benefit enhancements, and lifecycle compensation events.
- Serve as payroll and rewards SME; troubleshoot issues, recommend systems enhancements, and lead integrations (e.g., Kronos, Workday).
- Identify and implement workflow improvements and automation to streamline processes.
- Diploma or Degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
- Professional certification preferred PCP/CPM, CEBS, or CHRP.
- 8+ years of payroll and total rewards experience, including 5+ years in a managerial role with strong leadership skills
- Experience with multi-provincial payroll, pensions, and government remittances
- Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., Kronos, WorkDay), HRIS platforms and advanced Excel skills
- Experience working with Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA)
- Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and tax laws (federal and provincial)
- Familiarity with reporting, audits, and policy development
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and advanced project management skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a continuous improvement mindset
