The Director, Teaching Excellence will enact the College's Strategy and Vision as it relates to Teaching and Learning Excellence, as described in the Strategic and Academic plans, respectively, through the coordination and leadership of faculty professional development activity across the college.Key responsibilities:
  • Lead the Teaching and Learning Exchange (TLX) Team
  • Lead the TLX team in creating and delivering effective professional development opportunities related to pedagogy, tech tools, and more for all faculty members.
  • Monitor consultation requests and distribute workload amongst team.
  • Oversee orientation programs and services to new full- and part-time faculty, including the New Faculty Academy and other programs.
  • Develop and oversee the TLX's annual schedule of professional development programming, including faculty learning communities, workshops, the New Faculty Academy, professional learning certificates (e.g., the UDL Certificate) and micro-certificates, and the annual teaching and learning conference.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of new professional learning programs (e.g. micro-certificates and certificates) to support ongoing and emerging needs, as aligned with the college's Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Encourage Excellence in Andragogy and Educational Technology
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, evidence-based program that bolsters faculty learning, and ensures effective academic delivery to support student success.
  • Generate and implement a plan for evidence-informed training and use of educational technology in collaboration with the academic divisions.
  • Collaborate with Academic Divisions and Stakeholders
  • Foster cross-campus partnerships and faculty communities around topics of common interest in learning goals, teaching, and learning.
  • Work with the academic divisional leadership teams to support division-based faculty professional development and educational technology projects.
  • Enable College Strategy and Vision
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the TLX is proactively supporting the College's Academic strategy and vision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Master's of Education in Adult Learning or an acceptable equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution; PhD or Ed.D. preferred.
  • Minimum nine (9) years' experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated experience as an exceptional teacher, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience leading faculty professional development programming strongly preferred.
  • Managerial leadership experience in a unionized environment.
Skills and Attributes:
  • Expertise in pedagogy/andragogy, educational technology, and faculty development.
  • Excellent oral and written skills, and group facilitation skills.
  • Strong understanding of equity-minded approaches and inclusive practices.
  • Proven strategic planning and project implementation.
  • Highly proficient leadership with an ability to motivate individuals as well as lead college-wide change.
  • Open, straightforward, responsive, and willing to share information with others. Able to be empathetic. Able and willing to work across unit and institutional boundaries.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational technologies.
  • Advanced problem-solving, change management and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to travel between campuses.
  • Broad leadership skills managing a diverse team of experienced individuals.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion, and Indigenization.
