Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Oakville, Ontario.Worley is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer based in Oakville, Ontario, with experience in the design, development, and implementation of material handling systems for mining, metals, and minerals (MMM) processing operations. This role involves leading an engineering team, optimizing bulk material handling processes, and ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards. The Lead Engineer plays a critical role in project execution, vendor coordination, and technical decision-making. In Worley Canada East, you will report to the Manager, Mechanical and Piping Engineering Department, and you will work on a range of mining, minerals, and metals projects with project teams and customers while upholding Worley’s standards for safety and technical excellence.Candidates who are self-motivated, enjoy solving complex engineering problems, and demonstrate effective leadership and communication skills will be well suited to this role.Responsibilities:
  • Lead material handling engineering project team from concept to completion and provide expert guidance on equipment selection, system integration, and operational efficiency.
  • System design and engineering of material handling systems, including conveyors, feeders, stockpiles, and bulk storage solutions.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate material handling equipment for mining, metal and mineral processing operations.
  • Ensure all designs meet industry regulations, environmental standards, and safety protocols.
  • Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley, its customers and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications, on time and within budget.
  • Contribute to studies and projects.
  • Preparation of technical specifications, data sheets and vendor drawing and data requirements (VDDR) for mechanical equipment.
  • Perform technical bid evaluations leading to a recommendation and ultimate purchase of the equipment.
  • Perform complex engineering calculations with regards to material handling equipment and systems.
  • Liaise where needed with the supplier in the purchase of equipment.
  • Maintain familiarity with applicable codes and standards.
  • Review shop drawings and attend inspection as required.
  • Prepare project scope of work, planning and support RFQ’s (Requests for Quotation).
  • Identify and report changes to study / project scope.
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest developments and technical innovations in mechanical engineering.
  • Stamp project deliverables (if required).
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical oversight to junior engineers and design teams.
  • Participate in regulatory audits, client meetings, and quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in risk assessments, design reviews, and constructability evaluations.
  • Collaborate with project teams across multiple Worley offices, including teams in different time zones. Occasional work outside standard hours may be required.
  • Conduct occasional field walkdowns in operating plants and construction sites to support project activities. This may require short-duration land or air travel to other cities and countries for site visits and project coordination.

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of conveyor systems, crushing stations, and stockpile management.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and engineering tools.
  • Ability to prioritize work to meet tight deadlines.
  • Working with other disciplines, understanding engineering sequence, workflow and working with the customer on design reviews.
  • Working knowledge in all the relevant standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills in high-stakes, regulated environments.
Commitment to design excellence, safety compliance, and client satisfaction.Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant MMM experience.
  • Registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
For applicants based in the province of Ontario, the salary range is $148,643 to $198,643 CAD.
