Reporting to the Manager, Music School, the Voice/Choir Teacher is responsible for providing music education to children and youth primarily from the Regent Park, Moss Park and South Cabbagetown community.Responsibilities
- Provide an enjoyable and educational experience for children
- encourage and adequately prepare students to participate in Dixon Hall recitals or concerts, competitions, and festivals, if appropriate.
- Monitor student’s progress and adjust teaching methods and materials when necessary.
- Communicate with parents on a regular basis.
- Attend all classes in a punctual manner (i.e., arrive before students).
- Notify the Music School Director or Manager of any student's learning challenges, physical conditions, or other problems that may be related to violence, illicit drug use, crime, or other factors in their home and neighbourhood environment, as well as problem attendance, etc.
- Encourage students to take advantage of the school's resources such as other lessons available, camps, concert tickets, etc.
- Adhere to all agency guidelines and policies; attend appropriate staff meetings and workshops when possible.
- Maintain weekly attendance records of students.
- Request any necessary teaching materials.
- Notify the Music School Director/Manager of teaching absences as much in advance as possible.
- Prior experience teaching young children.
- Post-secondary education in music.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, communicate, work with, and maintain relationships with people from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
- Personal commitment to practicing high standards of professional conduct and ethics.
- Basic computer literacy and skills.
- Strong written and verbal English language communication skills; fluency in additional languages relevant to the communities of service will be considered an asset.
- Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
- Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency.
