
Electrical Engineer

- Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
- Prepares preliminary and final detailed designs for the electrical and automation systems associated with the Corporation's diesel, hydro-electric, and renewable generating stations, as well as transmission and distribution substations. These systems include generators, transformers, switchgear, plant automation, auxiliary electrical apparatus, control systems, and protective relaying systems. Designs shall be practical, economical, and meet or exceed the latest edition of all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Performs tender evaluations and provides recommendations for contract award. Carries out administration of contract on equipment and construction. Initiates purchase, processes progress and processes final payment claims for further review and approval.
- Performs on-site construction supervision, prepares detailed, project-specific electrical commissioning procedures and carries out or witnesses, as appropriate, the commissioning of electrical and automation systems.
- Supports Hydro and Thermal Operations as requested to resolve complex electrical issues and to assist with investigations, outage analysis, restoration and emergency field repairs.
- Participates in the development of corporate technical standards, procedures and policies.

- Bachelor's (or Master’s) degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of six years related experience in a utility or industrial setting with Electrical / Automation / Protection / and Controls. Preferably five years of electrical utility experience of which two are directly related to thermal and/or hydroelectric power generation. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Registered with NAPEG in NWT or other Professional Engineering association in other Provinces of Canada. If registered as P. Eng outside of NWT, individual must be eligible to be registered with NAPEG as P.Eng.
- Accomplished computer skills and ability to apply electrical analysis / design software.
- Excellent English communication and writing skills.
- Ability to work alone, in a team environment, and independently with minimal supervision.
- Above average interpersonal skills and ability to work in a functional team environment.
- Strong consultation, organization, and time management skills to ensure work is appropriately prioritized.
- Willing and able to travel throughout the Territory.
- Class 5 driver's license.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check will be required.
- Must be eligible to work/live in Canada (NWT) without sponsorship.
