- Conduct thorough reviews of specifications and drawings.
- Perform top-down estimates (high-level ROMs) and bottom-up estimates by analyzing every aspect of every operation in detail.
- Prepare subcontractor bid packages – includes compiling quantities and writing detailed scope.
- Respond to technical questions from bidders.
- Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects.
- Review estimates with the Operations staff.
- Prepare proposals by organizing all material, equipment, labour, and subcontract costs needed to complete the project.
- Solicit and coordinate with Vendors and Suppliers to obtain materials quotes.
- Track all bids, proposals and regularly communicate with Project Managers and other colleagues as needed.
- May assist with business development and/or new customer development
- Attend and participate in kick off meetings
- Prepare and/or review detailed cost estimates for projects.
- Manage, maintain and develop estimating programs / software / tracking systems
- Assist project management staff with change orders, deductions, etc.
- As required, assist all business units.
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency.
- Meet with clients, engineers, general contractors, and others regarding proposed construction projects.
- Prepare, present, and maintain required records and written reports as may be required.
- Read, interpret, and understand construction drawings and specifications, the provincial and city codes and ordinances regarding building codes, permit issuance, and permit fees.
- Minimum +5 years' of construction experience and a minimum of +5 years' of experience electrical estimating.
- Strong knowledge of the electrical installation field.
- Estimation experience with renewable energy projects an asset.
- Estimation experience on EPC projects an asset.
- 309A Electrician (Construction and Maintenance) Red Seal certification, University degree, or College diploma is required.
- Ability to read and evaluate engineering drawings, schematics, field drawings, and plans.
- Ability to read and evaluate technical specifications and commercial/contractual documentation.
- A solid understanding of all construction trades and construction techniques.
- Effectiveness in the areas of construction safety and productivity.
- Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances, and legislation.
- Understand the requirements and process for Construction Competition Certificates and Final Acceptance Certificates.
- Labor relations and union contract/procedure knowledge.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment, and have excellent time management skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, Project, etc.).
- Strong working knowledge of Accubid Pro software is considered an asset.
- Base salary is $95,000 - $135,000, dependent on candidate job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
