As an applicant, you must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a team environment. You have a demonstrated record of impactful and creative enterprise and/or investigative journalism. You are genuinely curious, care deeply about truth, and are able to hold the powerful to account on issues of injustice and transparency. You are a skilled interviewer, an adept researcher and a captivating storyteller. You have the skills to produce stories for rollout in news and current affairs, on all platforms, and on local, regional and national programming. You have a deep understanding of and appreciation for CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and media law.Tasks:1. Keep up with current events by consulting various sources.2. Establish and maintain links with different sources.3. Propose and receive topics for news stories.4. Research, gather, evaluate and verify all elements of the topics addressed.5. Plan reports around the story to be told. Conduct interviews and assess their relevance. Direct TV shoots. Direct recordings on the radio or for new media. Take photographs or direct photo shoots for new media.6. Listen to audio and view visuals. Select the appropriate clips. Provide information for the graphic illustration of the topics addressed.7. Decide on story angles. Draft various documents (reports, titles, briefs, texts with or without clips, presentation documents, ticker headlines) in a style that suits the medium and update them to reflect current events. Adapt the content of information programs. Depending on the position, translate or adapt copy or interviews into the broadcast language.8. Script and narrate reports.9. Submit texts for approval.10. Oversee the editing process. Retrieve and assemble audio and visual clips for television. Perform rough editing for radio. Prepare audio and visual elements for new media.11. Prepare live broadcasts. Propose questions and clips and suggest their order.12. Deliver the news or reports on air.13. Publish texts, reports as well as audio and visual elements on new media.14. Inform newsroom coordinators of any event requiring immediate broadcasting or special treatment.15. On request, review the texts of other journalists and contribute to their reports.16. Provide host journalists with written information (notes, dispatch) during special programs.17. Ensure the availability of the resources (studio, booth, technician) required to produce your reports.18. Drive a news vehicle.19. For new media, select and update relevant hyperlinks. File and archive website content. Help organize andparticipate in interactive activities (moderating talkbacks, chats, forums). Follow up on e-mails from readers.20. Carry out all other related tasks as needed.More specific duties are as follows:Generate story ideas for news items, reports, interviews and in-depth features.Ensure that your journalism complies with CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.Produce copy, video, audio, and photos.Have sound knowledge of the various multimedia formats and best practices.Produce multiple versions of your story for CBC/Radio-Canada’s various platforms as needed.We are looking for a candidate with the following:A) Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and three years of journalism experience or the equivalent.B) Skills:Strong knowledge of news and current-events.Excellent writing skills.Understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.Proficiency with digital formats.Proficiency with content management tools.Knowledge of audio, video recording and editing functions.Knowledge of audience data.Valid driver’s license.Advanced oral proficiency, intermediate writing proficiency and advanced reading proficiency in English.Strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.Selected candidates will be tested as follows:Interviews.Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the nextstep will be asked to complete a background check.
