- Job Description
- Carrying out multidisciplinary technical coordination for the development of preliminary and detailed design deliverables for all disciplines (electrical, civil, structural, P&C, SCADA)
- Developing safe engineering solutions by using initiative and judgement to perform tasks including developing designs, analyzing and resolving problems, and interpreting engineering specifications on medium to highly complex projects;
- Resolving highly technical and unusual design and field engineering problems by conducting independent studies and analysis, exercising independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information, recommending safe engineering designs to support successful project completion;
- Delivering exceptional customer service by communicating with stakeholders and performing activities such as defining the scope of engineering services to be provided, establishing the basic design criteria, reviewing all related technical documentation, and assessing and reporting on work progress against standards, objectives, and specifications to support completion of projects safely, with quality, within budget and on time.
- Coordinating design reviews both internal and with clients, ensuring designs conform to all applicable codes, client standards and CIMA's quality management system
- Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to align scope, schedule, cost, risks, and engineering deliverables.
- Developing engineering cost estimates, scope of work description and engineering schedules for proposals;
- Apply rigorous QA/QC practices and ensure all engineering deliverables meet stage-gate and quality requirements.
- Identifying, monitoring and resolving technical issues that may affect project's budgets and timelines within established milestones;
- Liaise with clients, regulatory authorities, and other project stakeholders to support project's execution and effective information exchange
- Monitoring project's progress and performance against established terms of reference and Work Plans;
- Own the engineering schedule & budget, ensuring deliverable sequencing, progress tracking, and alignment with project milestones/expectations.
- Preparing Field Review Plan and performing site inspection as per EGBC requirements;
- Collaborate with the client's engineering team in addressing challenging, complex, or unusual engineering issues, providing solutions-oriented support to effectively manage and mitigate engineering risks.
- Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning, including constructability reviews and field issue resolution.
- Profile
- Minimum of ten (10) years of HV/MV substation engineering experience;
- University Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (power system specialization preferred);
- Registered professional member of Engineer and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) or be eligible to register
- Advanced experience with electrical design for electric utility substations
- Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE and Canadian Utility standards;
- Valid Canadian Driver's License;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Knowledge of French is an asset;
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, with exceptional initiative and attention to detail;
- Skills in work organization, priority management and an interest in teamwork in an environment that can change direction quickly;
- Sound professional judgment, initiative, and ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines in a fast passed, deadline oriented and dynamic environment;
- Ability to successfully and collaboratively work within a team environment and across disciplines as well as work independently;
- Working Knowledge of Microsoft D365 is an asset;
- Experience with coordinating multi-discipline designs and construction projects (asset);
- Client focused and flexible to respond to short notice assignments and to project based client demands;
- Ability to manage and mentor junior engineers and technologists
