The City of Edmonton is looking for a dedicated and experienced leader to join our Parks and Roads Services (PARS) team as a Roadway Maintenance Leader II, specializing in Turf and Snow and Ice Control (SNIC). This is a permanent, full-time position within the City Operations department. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the work is performed in compliance with all safety standards and procedures, including those from OH&S Alberta and the City's own policies. Your responsibilities will include dispatching crews, upholding service levels, and completing all necessary paperwork and digital logs. You will also be a mentor and coach to your team, providing hands-on leadership and fostering a culture of growth and development. This position requires you to maintain effective working relationships with the public, other City departments, and outside organizationsWhat will you do?Lead and supervise crews daily in the field, providing hands-on leadership and ensuring they are adequately trained for skilled and semi-skilled tasksEnsure the effective and timely delivery of work plans for both turf operations and snow and ice control, while considering quality and budgetPromote and enforce a positive safety culture by ensuring all staff are trained on equipment, and that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Hazard Assessments (HAs) are followedAssign work tasks, demonstrate the use of equipment, and provide guidance to crew members as neededCommunicate effectively with crews, supervisors, and other internal and external collaborators, including the public, regarding work plans and on-site inquiriesComplete all required paperwork and digital logs related to equipment and frontline task completionQualificationsHigh School Diploma or GEDA minimum of 3 years of practical experience in Turf Operations and Snow and Ice Control including experience with municipal Parks equipment such as mowers, brooms, and low hp tractorsDemonstrated supervisory skills and abilityDemonstrated experience with supervising field-based teamsDemonstrated experience with implementing safety practices and proceduresEmergency First Aid CertificateAssets:LMS Leadership trainingExperience and demonstrated expertise with Google Applications Suite, ArcGIS, SDMS, LMS, and SAPSkills required for success:Strong knowledge of equipment and tools used in snow and ice control and turf operationsExcellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as analytical and problem-solving skillsExemplary customer service skillsAbility to work and make decisions in an independent mannerAbility to adapt to changing priorities, whether due to managerial direction or weather dependencyExperience in monitoring and coaching employees and resolving issuesKnowledge of City policies, bylaws, and legislation, as well as the collective agreement between the City of Edmonton and CUPE Local 30Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies ( )Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusionConditions of Employment:The successful candidate will be fit for a respirator, compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this positionCandidates are required to hold a valid Alberta Class 3 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). The successful candidate will be given 6 months from the date of hire to acquire a Class 3 permit. Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this positionWork Environment:The work environment involves working in various physical conditions and circumstances. You will be exposed to extreme temperatures, precipitation, and dusty conditions. The role requires moderate physical effort, including standing, walking, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 20 lbs.
