CAMH is fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and is a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Centre.The General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division at CAMH serves a large population of adults and includes the largest psychiatric emergency department in Canada, five 25-bed inpatient units, a bridging clinic and 7 large outpatient programs including the Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention, Gender Identity Clinic, Mood and Anxiety Services, General Assessment Clinic, Integrated Day Treatment program, Borderline Personality Disorder Clinic, and Work Stress and Health Program.The General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division provides comprehensive interdisciplinary care to those with psychiatric emergencies and admits primarily adults who require hospitalization. The Division is a hub for research and quality improvement focused on improving the mental health care of those in acute care and those requiring care for mood, anxiety, personality and trauma related disorders. Beyond the pursuit of leading-edge research, the division serves as a resource for professionals, organizations and government bodies from a local to international level. The General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division trains a large number of family medicine and psychiatry residents and fellows throughout their training.Role and Responsibilities
The Associate Chief of the General Adult Psychiatry and Health Systems Division will play an important role in supporting the Chief in relation to clinical care, education and quality improvement within the division at CAMH. The Associate Chief will have the following responsibilities, delivered alongside the Chief and other senior leadership:
- Provide leadership to the physicians of Division, together with the Medical Heads and Clinic Leads in the Emergency Department, Bridging and Inpatient settings, in the areas of operational performance, policy implementation and the meeting of expectations as defined within the expectations documents for the division, including performance management and annual reappointments; chairing medical staff meetings; developing and implementing a Division wide communication strategy.
- Provide leadership to the quality portfolio of the Division including the Quality Council of the division and developing a culture of quality improvement amongst division physicians and provide Divisional representation at key leadership tables including the Medical Advisory Committee, Clinical Leadership Team, Access and Flow Committee and other related committees.
- Provide leadership in senior clinical roles including case conferences, participate in quality reviews, reviews of critical incidents, operational reviews in the ED, Bridging and Inpatient Setting.
- Contribute to the strategic development and business planning process of the Division at CAMH across inpatient and ED care, to include developing of new models of care and care pathways, quality standards, partnerships and research.
- Provide mentorship and support career development for CAMH physicians in the Division in collaboration with the Chief, including a focus on mentorship in education and creative professional activities
- Provide leadership on the Education mission of the Division and work with the Education Coordinators, CAMH Education Directors and the University of Toronto, Department of Psychiatry to ensure excellence in educational opportunities for interdisciplinary staff, physicians and trainees in all areas of the Division with a focus on the ED, Bridging and inpatient settings
- Promote and contribute to the research agenda, including encouraging all staff physicians to be supportive of and involved in research projects.
- Promote and contribute to creative professional activities of the Division, including encouraging all staff to be supportive of and involved in innovation and service development.
- Clinical responsibilities can include inpatient beds and work in the Emergency Department.
