We are seeking a full-time Fitness Director to create exceptional group fitness experiences and lead a growing team. As the head of the fitness department and a member of the organization’s Senior Leadership Team, you’ll ensure all group fitness and personal training offerings are carried out with excellence, track and report on department performance, monitor industry trends to constantly innovate and improve offerings, and lead annual strategic direction and execution for the fitness department.The ideal candidate is passionate about delivering expertly crafted fitness experiences, working collaboratively to create a world-class fitness brand, building positive relationships that support and cultivate top talent, and maintaining structure and organization across the fitness department. Experience teaching group fitness classes in HIIT, Yoga, Ride and/or Pilates environments, managing dynamic teams, and driving strategic business initiatives would be important to having success in this role.With Sweat & Tonic’s plans to grow locations in Canada and the U.S., this is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to merge their passions for fitness and people management, and get involved at the early stages of a premium, growing organization.About the Team:
As the Fitness Director, you’ll report directly the Chief Brand Officer and Founder. You’ll also work closely with other members of the Senior Leadership Team including the Chief Operations Officer and Marketing Manager. The Fitness Operations Manager and Personal Training & Instructor Manager report directly to you, and you also oversee all group fitness instructors.Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Programming Standards & Class Execution
  • Ensure all fitness offerings are executed at the highest quality level and in a strategic manner that maximizes class attendance and aligns with S&T’s premium brand standards.
  • Coordinate with the fitness department to audit, track, report on, and improve performance of the overall department including HIIT, Yoga, Ride and Personal Training studios.
  • Execute quarterly competitive analysis and research to track trends, drive growth and spark innovation.
  • Instructor Recruitment, Training & Development
  • Recruit, train, and audition new instructors to fill open positions, build sub lists, and prepare for the opening of new locations.
  • Coordinate with the fitness department to track and develop underperforming instructors to improve overall class experience, attendance, and community engagement.
  • Motivate, inspire and build relationships with team members to foster a culture that collaborates, elevates, and belongs.
  • Ensure instructors deliver exceptional customer service and act as Sweat & Tonic brand ambassadors, both in and out of class.
  • Ensure instructors are participating in promotional events, photo & video shoots, and campaigns.
  • Class Schedule Optimization
  • Work with the Fitness Operations Manager to coordinate, analyze, optimize, and report on class schedules. Present quarterly schedule refreshes to Senior Management team.
  • Coordinate directly with the Marketing team to promote classes, launch new class styles, and drive traffic to underperforming timeslots.
  • Business Strategy
  • Work alongside the management team to define strategic annual goals that continue improving offerings and revenue, develop execution plan, lead execution, track progress, and present end results.
  • Coordinated with the management team to develop expansion plans, improve fitness environment, and adjust standard operating procedures as the organization scales.
  • As part of the Senior Leadership Team, play a key role in the overall direction of the business and brand.
Qualifications for Success in this Role:
  • 5-7 years of experience in a management role, ideally in the fitness, hospitality or retail industry
  • Experience teaching Yoga, Pilates, HIIT, and/or Ride classes
  • In-depth understanding of and interest in following the fitness industry, both within Toronto and internationally
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required
  • Passion for fitness and wellness
  • University degree or experience in Business or Operations is desirable
  • Experience managing a multi-location team with proven success at demonstrating high growth and profitability
  • Proven success in organizational effectiveness
  • Experience budgeting and forecasting
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in highly pressured roles and environments with ambiguity
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and personally passionate about health and fitness
  • Highly organized, responsible, and trustworthy
  • Experience in a start-up environment is desirable
  • This is an in-person position that requires a consistent presence within the studio environment. Local candidates are preferred.
