Student Experience also provides institutional support and leadership on large-scale assessment and projects that enrich the student experience. Units directly within Student Experience include, the Office of the CAO; Student Life IT; Student Life Communications; Student Crisis Response, Progress, & Support; Assessment & Analysis; Innovation Hub; and Strategic Initiatives.Your opportunity:Reporting to the Manager, Social Media and Multimedia, the Social Media Officer is responsible for supporting the social media presence for Student Life.The Social Media Officer identifies and posts relevant content; ensures that social media content reflects Student Life's mission and identity; drives increased use of social media among key constituencies; responds to student inquiries and helps to achieve communications and marketing objectives. The incumbent monitors and tracks social media usage trends and reports on the effectiveness of engagement on these channels.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinating tasks for projects and other strategic initiatives with stakeholders
  • Advising on best practices and strategies to maximize digital communication initiatives
  • Producing promotional and outreach materials
  • Writing and editing digital communications
  • Drafting and editing content for print and/or online communications channels
  • Analyzing and recommending options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
  • Advising on social media trends and platforms to enhance digital communication strategies
  • Researching and evaluating emerging social media platforms and partnerships
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a program related to digital communication, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years' recent related experience in social media preferably within a university or public sector environment and in a creative team environment.
  • Experience with writing and editing for digital communications preferably within a higher education environment.
  • Experience with gathering relevant information for social media purposes, measurement, and client service.
  • Proven track record of recommending ideas and implementing communications plans for both internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience and impact in using images and video for social media.
  • Must have experience successfully managing and executing a variety of social media assignments from conceptual stages through delivery and follow-up evaluation.
  • Must have up-to-date understanding of online and social media, as well as background in all media that support social media.
  • Proven experience creating social media content, including video content.
  • Highly organized, able to multi-task andthrive within a fast-paced environment, work under pressure and balance competing priorities and deliver on time to meet deadlines.
  • Must be an effective problem solver.
  • Must have strong written communications skills.
  • Ability to balance creativity with accuracy while juggling multiple assignments to meet tight deadlines using good content judgement.
  • High proficiency with Mac and PC formats; advanced skills in Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and social media management tools (such as HootSuite, Sprout Social, Radian6).
  • A keen interest in online communications and social media trends and technologies.
  • Positive and supportive attitude. Outstanding work ethic, motivated, results-oriented and innovative.
  • Must have enthusiasm for digital communications and the ability to effectively steward the University's positioning and brand through its digital channels.
  • Demonstrated initiative and good judgement and the ability to work cooperatively and be an effective team member.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of faculty, staff and students as well as individuals who are external to the University.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. Highly creative.
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Knowledge of media relations and journalism.
