Your Opportunity:Working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team at the East Edmonton Health Center , the Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership, and organization of day-to-day activities of the clinic, including direct supervision of clinic staff. The AHN will provide leadership in clinical practice through coordination and monitoring of clinical activities, management of equipment, supplies and patient flow. The AHN assumes responsibility and acts as a resource for staff skill assessment and development. The AHN is in a leadership role and must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude, excellent communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills. The AHN will develop and maintain strong working relationships with physicians, nursing staff, other clinic staff, and other departments and interdisciplinary team members. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates, and empowers clinical staff. The AHN assists in the integration of skills and knowledge for staff on the unit, supports quality improvement/education initiatives and enhances patient safety. The AHN creates an environment of respect and collaboration and adheres and models the Alberta Health Services (AHS) missions, and values.Description:As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 3-5 years of emergency/acute care experience in an emergency department (ED) setting is mandatory. Charge, Trauma, and Triage experience, in an ED setting, is mandatory. Excellent computer skills including working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Netcare, connect Care and Insite. Ability to actively support frontline patient care needs, including heavy physical components (transfers/lifts). Expert knowledge of emergency nursing care standards/protocols. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, problem solving, and communication skills, including the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Demonstrated excellent time management, assessment, organizational and patient care skills. Exceptional ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to request and accept direction as required. Demonstration of critical thinking skills are essential, within scope of practice, including clinical judgement. Ability to initiate and effectively implement change. Demonstrated teaching abilities, strong decision-making, assessment, and intervention skills. Capable of working in a demanding environment with patients of varying mobility. Proven reliability/dependability is required. Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those with the following certifications: Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
