The Opportunity:Our client in southwestern Ontario is hiring a Mine Engineering Technician (Ground Control) to join the Engineering team at a large underground salt mining operation in Goderich, Ontario. This role supports ground control and rock mechanics programs while also assisting mine planning activities through scheduling, drafting, and data collection. Working closely with the Ground Control Engineer and cross-functional teams, this position plays a key role in maintaining safe underground conditions and supporting efficient, compliant mining operations.What You'll Be Doing:
  • Install and maintain rock mechanics instrumentation in underground excavations
  • Collect, format, and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly rock mechanics data
  • Inspect underground excavation conditions and assist with rehabilitation planning
  • Complete geologic mapping of underground openings as required
  • Perform 3D scanning of surface and underground areas, including data processing and registration
  • Conduct ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys and assist with data analysis and presentation
  • Support weekly mine-wide ventilation surveys, including issue identification and corrective action development
  • Complete monthly audits of underground openings, assessing ground conditions and support integrity
  • Maintain engineering drawings, records, and technical documentation
  • Coordinate with mine operations personnel to arrange equipment needs and instrumentation installation
  • Stay current on industry best practices and emerging technologies to improve safety and operational efficiency
  • Provide general support to the Engineering Department and perform other related duties as required
What You'll Need to Be Successful:
  • Diploma as a Mine Engineering Technologist or Technician
  • 3-5 years of mining experience preferred
  • Experience with underground soft rock mining considered an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • AutoCAD experience is highly desirable
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness and ability to work in elevated man lifts (up to approximately 60 feet above the mine floor)
  • Ability to work underground in a safety-critical environment and support a 24-hour operation
Compensation Range: $75,000 - $90,000
