About the RoleToro Construction is seeking a Health and Safety Intern to join our Construction Site Team for the Winter 2025 term. This is a hands-on opportunity to support the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) across active construction sites and subcontracted installation crews. You’ll gain valuable field experience while contributing to a culture of safety excellence.Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct site visits and complete safety reports with subcontractors and site staff
  • Identify hazards and recommend corrective and preventative measures
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Toro’s OHSM program
  • Assist with emergency response and incident investigations
  • Prepare and distribute safety packages for project sites
  • Update policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Develop safe work procedures in collaboration with construction teams
  • Maintain compliance documentation and ensure accuracy
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of safety concerns
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a postsecondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field
  • Technical knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and O.Reg.213/91 Construction Projects
  • Construction experience is an asset but not required
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Skills & Attributes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and navigate active construction sites
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive)
  • Analytical, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Energetic and self-motivated promoter of health and safety
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across all levels
Work Environment
  • Primarily outdoors on active construction sites in various stages of completion
  • Exposure to all weather conditions
  • Physical requirements include walking stairs, climbing ladders, and navigating uneven terrain
  • Some administrative work in office settings
