Water Meter Technician (6-Month Contract)The City of Orillia is less than 90 minutes from the Greater Toronto Area. This position is for an existing vacancy.Reporting to the Supervisor of Metering and Backflow Prevention, the Meter Technician is responsible for the day-to-day metering and backflow requirements which includes all associated appurtenances.Candidates must possess a water meter installer certification in Ontario (restricted skill set 800A), basic plumbing and mechanical skills, strong problem solving skills and a valid Ontario Class G driver's license with an acceptable driver’s abstract.The hourly rate for this position is $26.40 per hour based on a 40-hour work week, with the option to enrol in the OMERS Pension Plan. - Install, inspect and maintain water meters and related equipment at residential, commercial and industrial properties.
- Diagnose and repair faulty or damaged meters and related equipment.
- Record and verify data, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries or issues regarding water metering.
- Perform Backflow device audits by checking for compliance of applicable by-laws.
- Work in accordance with City policies and applicable by-laws as well as the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, Ministry of Labour and other mandated legislation.
- Work with Supervisor of Metering and Backflow Prevention to arrange contracted work and obtain supplies.
- Attend training seminars as required and provided by the City.
- Post-secondary diploma in a related field.
- Water Meter Installer certification (Ontario).
- First Aid, confined space and WHMIS training an asset.
- Minimum two years’ of related experience.
- Proven experience in troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of water meters and AMI systems.
- Basic plumbing and mechanical experience.
- Computer skills using MS Office applications including Word, Excel and email.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment as well as positively interact with members of the public.
- Must possess strong organizational, initiative, and judgement skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Physical demand requires field work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals as well as exposal to small work areas.
- May be required to work in an office environment where physical demand requires sitting, standing or walking. Work is conducted in a standard office environment with continual visual concentration required.
- PPE must be worn as required in accordance with City policies and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s License with an acceptable driver's abstract.
- A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required prior to the commencement date, at the incumbent's expense.
