Assistance will be provided.The DepartmentThe Marketing, Sales and Communications Team is responsible for revenue generation, box office, group sales, advertising, marketing, media relations, and social media for the Shaw Festival. The Marketing, Sales and Communications Department implements proactive initiatives to ensure clear, consistent and appropriate messaging and branding for The Shaw featuring performances, events and education, development and the organization at large. The department’s goal is to maintain a positive brand image, while driving audiences to the Festival.The PositionThe Shaw Festival is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Social Media Intern to support the creation and management of engaging digital content across Shaw’s social media platforms.Working closely with the Digital Content Manager, this role will help capture the energy of life at the Shaw Festival through photography, video and written content for platforms including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. The intern will assist with content creation, community engagement and event coverage throughout the season.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student or emerging content creator interested in building hands-on experience in digital storytelling, social media and arts marketing.Key ResponsibilitiesContent Creation
  • Capture photos and short-form video content across the Shaw campus including behind-the-scenes moments, donor and artist interviews, and seasonal events.
  • Edit photographs and videos for use across social media platforms.
  • Assist in creating engaging Reels, short videos and visual posts that highlight Shaw productions, artists and audience experiences.
Social Media Content & Copywriting
  • Write engaging and on-brand captions for posts on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Assist with scheduling and publishing social media content.
  • Help maintain consistent brand voice across platforms.
Community Engagement
  • Support the monitoring of Shaw Festival’s social media channels.
  • Respond to comments/messages where appropriate and flag questions to the communications team.
  • Help cultivate an active and positive online community.
Event & Campus Coverage
  • Assist with on-site photography and video coverage at special events and community activities.
  • Capture real-time content during events for social media stories and posts.
Administrative & Logistics Support
  • Assist with organizing and cataloguing photo and video assets.
  • Support the Digital Content Manager with content planning and coordination.
  • Provide general administrative support for social media initiatives as required.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a post-secondary program in Communications, Marketing, Social Media, Journalism, Photography, Film or a related field.
  • Strong interest in social media content creation, photography and video.
  • Experience creating social media content – including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn – for nonprofits, school clubs/committees and/or other organizations is preferred.
  • Strong skills in capturing and editing photos and short-form video content.
  • Basic experience with editing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar tools is an asset.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create concise and engaging social media copy.
  • Creative, collaborative and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative and attention to detail.
  • An appreciation for theatre, arts and live performance is an asset.
Contract Position Details
  • Term: 16 weeks from May – August 2026
  • Hours: 35 hours per week. Hours may include evenings and weekends as required.
  • Location: Onsite at Shaw’s Niagara-on-the-Lake campus.
  • Compensation: $700 per week
