Our projects span across western Canada and across industries. Our team comprises archaeologists with diverse backgrounds and experience levels, fostering a supportive and enjoyable work environment aimed at individual growth and development. We're currently hiring contract employees with potential for renewal and advancement to regular, full-time positions for the right candidate.Your Key ResponsibilitiesUnder the direct supervision of Stantec’s permitted Intermediate and Senior archaeologists, Junior Archaeologists assist with carrying out archaeological field work and reporting under current provincial and professional requirements. This role will be primary field-based and include the following responsibilities, as required:Participate in preliminary field reconnaissance surveys and archaeological impact assessmentsCollect field dataParticipate in identifying and recording areas of archaeological potential, archaeological sites, and traditional use sitesAssist in archaeological monitoring and excavationsMaintain field equipmentAdhere to company policies and standardsActively participate in Stantec’s HSSE programsYour work may also include: - Travel and shifts ranging from one day up to 24 days away from home; typical work shifts are 10 to 14 days, 10-hour days (overtime eligible). Accommodation and meals/per diems are included.Operation of a motor vehicle, including pickup trucks and trailering and ATV/UTV use. Training provided for ATV/UTV use, as neededOperation of other types of motorized equipment including archaeological power screens (training provided). Some projects include travel in helicopter and small aircraft.Working near mobile equipment and heavy machinery.Your Capabilities and CredentialsInterest in cultural resource managementWillingness to learn identification of archaeological artefacts and features, traditional use sites & features, and culturally modified treesWillingness to learn archaeological geophysics, mapping, pedestrian surveys, subsurface testing, excavation, analog and digital data collectionDedicated to following and promoting a strong safety cultureTime management skills that include balancing short-term and immediate work commitments with varying priorities and deadlinesStrong communication skills, including verbal, technical writing, and electronic communicationsAble to work away from home/stay in hotels or camps for periods of up to 3 weeks and on rotationDesire to work closely with other environmental professionals and Indigenous NationsMay be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and maintain that status for the duration of employment based on specific client requirementsSafety training will be required, including internal training as well as external training such as First Aid and Ground Disturbance, as well as project specific training. Required training costs are covered by Stantec.A valid class 5 driver’s license is preferredAble to lift 50lbs and complete physically demanding fieldwork in a range of weather conditions for up to 12 hours per day while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitudeEducation and ExperienceA Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in Archaeology and/or work toward a Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in Archaeology. While not required, participation in an archaeological field school would be an asset.Our team is committed to meaningful engagement and collaboration.
