A Canadian manufacturing company in the forest products sector is currently seeking a Pulp Machine Superintendent to oversee operations in a key department within its kraft pulp production facility. The role requires strong leadership skills, deep technical knowledge of kraft processes, and a proactive mindset toward continuous improvement and safety.The Pulp Machine Superintendent will be responsible for leading a team of approximately 30 employees and managing the day-to-day operations of the pulp machine department. The role is focused on maintaining safe practices, regulatory compliance, high equipment uptime, and delivering strong production output while fostering a culture of accountability and operational excellence.Key responsibilities include:
  • Oversee safe operations in accordance with environmental and occupational health regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, values, and legal requirements at all levels of the department.
  • Optimize pulp machine performance by reducing downtime and improving efficiency and product quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement strategic process enhancements.
  • Monitor and analyze key production metrics such as throughput, yield, and overall efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with maintenance and other operating departments to ensure alignment and coordination.
  • Contribute to departmental budgeting and cost control efforts.
  • Lead and develop team members through clear communication, coaching, and support.
  • Maintain accurate production records and contribute to reporting using standard digital tools.

  • Degree in Engineering preferred OR a minimum of 5 years of experience in a kraft pulp environment (digester, bleach plant, or pulp machine).
  • At least 3 years in a supervisory role within a unionized industrial setting.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage and motivate teams while driving results.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal abilities, with an emphasis on collaboration and responsiveness to employee feedback.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement and the ability to adapt operations in response to market and operational trends.
  • Financial awareness with the ability to align operational strategies with cost and performance targets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort working with digital systems and data.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada at the time of application.

  • Base salary starting at $ 145,000 CAD, plus annual performance-based bonus.
