Co-operative education gives students an opportunity to test skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Arts and Science Co-op Office is responsible for preparing students in over 50 unique program areas to compete for paid co-op work opportunities. The Office alsois responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university Co-op programming contributes to the development of well-qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.Your opportunity:Reporting to the Assistant Director, Student Services, the incumbent will lead the overall co-op student experience and student success looking at the full journey from recruitment to graduation. The role has a specific focus on student transition from access to the program, engagement in co-op program activities to support success and transition to work and back to academics, and progression to completion of co-op program requirements. In addition, the Team Lead oversees co-op advising, recruitment and student and industry engagement events, and student communications. This robust role will build and strengthen the co-op community and ensure the student experience is thriving within the co-op department.This will involve ensuring service delivery requirements and standards for the program are being met; developing and implementing recommendations based on student survey and focus groups; implementing plans and process improvements for program services to meet department goals; supervising the day to day work of Co-op Coordinators, Event Coordinator and Marketing Officer who are all contributing to shape the overall student experience. This role will collaborate with other Team Leads, as well as other student services departments (such as Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing, Registrar's Office, Admission and Recruitment) and faculty and staff in academic units, to ensure a holistic approach to student success and a positive student experience in the program.Your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and implementing workflow for a group
  • Overseeing day-to-day service delivery requirements and operational needs
  • Developing components of programs and initiatives that advance program objectives
  • Conducting a detailed analysis of student feedback and learning outcomes to inform program planning activities
  • Developing and implementing student retention plans that support strategic objectives
  • Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
  • Responding to and resolving service complaints
  • Directing the activities of a group of staff-appointed employees.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a relevant area of study (i.e. education, student development, business, psychology) or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • Minimum five years' direct and recent experience in undergraduate student programming with experience working directly with students, in a post-secondary co-op/career or experiential education environment
  • Experience supervising and leading staff is required with demonstrated ability to foster an engaging team atmosphere built on collegiality and respect and motivate both individual and collective accountability to achieve department targets and plans, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Direct and relevant experience in recruitment, communication, marketing, and events related to student programming, student transition, and student success
  • Experience managing relationships between multiple stakeholder groups and working in a data or target driven environment, building community and engagement, enhancing student experience and student success
  • Demonstrated experience in program management (service design and delivery and improvement)
  • Experience running student programming and monitoring metrics and developing strategies to support student success
  • Must show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required for managing stakeholder collaboration, and to make strong and confident presentations to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills and a focused attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize work and multi-task
  • Good judgement, tact and discretion and able to resolve issues, problems and competing goals
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and CRM systems
