Join us and experience our supportive and friendly workplace.Your roleThe Technician within Country Office Canada in Halifax is responsible to perform installation, integration and maintenance work tasks at the customer’s site. The Technician is accountable to conduct training courses at the customer’s site in customer projects. The Technician primarily provides support to DND for Saab Radar systems found onboard the Halifax Class Frigates.These services include complex program management, mobile repair parties, retrofit activities, repair services, and equipment modifications. You will conduct complex government contracts technical activities / projects, support the Service Manager. The position also includes travels occasionally.As a Field Service Representative, you will also:
  • Prepare and report technical status to the service manager in accordance with the work procedures stated in the technical operations and maintenance manuals
  • Maintain and manage customer systems in accordance with customer safety, security rules and regulations
  • Perform installation, integration and maintenance work tasks on radars (naval, land based or remote locations)
  • Review and manage spare stock and test equipment in accordance with the required rules & regulations
  • Perform shipping and receiving goods activities from customers, partners and Saab AB
  • Synchronize with other Saab stakeholders in relevant cases
  • Work in alignment with Saab’s policies and directives
  • Other tasks within the Country Unit, relevant to the role as a Service Technician, and agreed upon between the Service Manager and the Head of Operations
Your profileTo thrive in this role you have a strong technical knowledge in reading and interpreting technical publications, schematics and blue prints on an operations and maintenance level. We believe that you have good understanding of complex electronic systems, high voltage technical environment and RF safety guides. You have the ability to communicate and interact effectively with people from multi-cultural and diverse backgrounds. You are a team player but with strong initiative to work with little supervisionRequired experience is:
  • Technical Diploma or equivalent experience
  • 5 + years’ direct work experience in naval radar technology or similar experience in the military or equivalent civilian naval environment
  • Well-developed written skills in English and at least one additional language (preferred although not essential)
  • Technical experience in level with requirements to perform installation, integration, maintenance and training tasks
  • Experience with complex electronic repairs, cable termination, understand electrical schematics and troubleshooting faults
  • Experience in having served the Canadian Armed Forces is an asset
  • Courses in such areas as Advanced Soldering, cable termination, etc are assets
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Possess an ability to adapt to different and changing situations
