Apply today to join a firm that is dedicated to you.We are seeking an IT Architect to join our team in Toronto!The IT Architect plays a critical leadership role within the Enterprise Solutions team, overseeing a comprehensive and integrated IT framework that defines and delivers the Firm’s long-term technology strategy. This includes responsibility for enterprise architecture, IT governance, and security across core domains such as datacenter, cloud, networks, end-user devices, application platforms, databases, data integration, and systems service delivery.The IT Architect supports Firm-wide operations through rigorous management of Line-of-Business (LOB) applications, associated platforms, SQL Server environments, enterprise data architecture, reporting, and integration services. This role also oversees the lifecycle of infrastructure, data, and resources including capacity and succession planning, and ensures high availability and performance through systematic monitoring, testing, and remediation practices. A strong focus is placed on user engagement, operational excellence, and the maintenance of clear support and procedural documentation.Success in this role requires deep expertise in legal-industry-specific applications and platforms, data and database architecture, solution design, and operational delivery. The IT Architect is expected to demonstrate strategic thinking, advanced analytical capabilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and professional development in the field of enterprise IT architecture and security.Key Responsibilities:Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership to the Tier 3 support team and interface directly with users to ensure service excellence.
  • Lead strategic discussions with architects and product owners to assess current-state capabilities and define forward-looking technology solutions.
  • Contribute to the Firm’s infrastructure vision, focusing on client engagement, user productivity, operational efficiency, and risk management.
  • Maintain a forward-looking Service Portfolio and continuously evaluate the relevance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of enterprise IT services.
Enterprise Architecture & Solution Design
  • Serve as a senior resource in all application, platform, and data-related architecture design, delivery, and lifecycle management initiatives.
  • Review and refine application and data security models across production, test, and development environments.
  • Engage stakeholders to scope, estimate, and plan projects, identifying integration points, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Assume ownership of critical enterprise applications, ensuring performance, optimization, and alignment with business needs.
LOB Applications, Data & Platform Management
  • Oversee the performance and availability of all LOB applications, SQL Server instances, and associated application platforms.
  • Conduct periodic resource utilization reviews to support strategic planning and lifecycle management.
  • Manage and centralize data integration workflows to streamline operations and enable centralized monitoring and control.
  • Coordinate and lead integration/workflow development efforts related to databases and enterprise data pipelines.
Monitoring, Optimization & Documentation
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, licensing, interdependencies, and data workflows.
  • Strengthen monitoring frameworks through the strategic inclusion of process- and query-level insights.
  • Oversee backup operations to ensure consistency and recovery readiness.
  • Support quality assurance teams with requirements translation and define test parameters for acceptance testing.
Service Excellence & Continuous Improvement
  • Actively review and respond to enhancement requests and operational needs from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive innovation through continuous evaluation of legal technology trends, tools, and best practices for inclusion in the Firm's roadmap.
  • Participate in firm-wide initiatives and projects, supporting execution as a senior architectural and operational resource.
Project & Initiative Management
  • Manage and coordinate activity pipelines to maintain momentum and readiness for future initiatives.
  • Contribute to project governance by ensuring architectural alignment, risk identification, and mitigation planning.
What you'll bring:
  • University degree/diploma in Computer Science or related technology.
  • Minimum of 5 years of IT experience, 3 years of which in a Senior level Role designing and implementing Legal industry-specific LOB application solutions, Database Integrations, Data analysis & and reporting Solutions, and Application Integration after analyzing & and gathering Business requirements in the Legal Industry.
  • Knowledge of Aderant, IntApp, Iridium and iManage will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Incident Management, Security Analysis & reporting, Risk management and business awareness, and end-user training.
  • Knowledge of designing, implementing, and managing SQL Clustering, High Availability (HA) and (DR) options for SQL.
  • Experience with implementing operational automation using scripts (PowerShell, TSQL, VB Scripts, etc.).
  • Experience in ETL design, strategy, and associated processes as well as in PowerBI, Analytics, SSIS, and Other ETL Tools.
  • Knowledge of relational objects such as tables, stored procedures, triggers, and DTS/SSIS packages is required, along with experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting queries, stored procedures, and SSIS packages.
  • Experience Indexing for performance (index maintenance and statistics, index usage analysis, etc.).
  • Experience in one or more development platforms, including .NET, Visual Basic, Visual C++, Java, SharePoint, Lotus Notes/Domino.
  • Experience in designing solutions for data warehouse system integrations.
  • Experience building integrated systems from on-premises to cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Develop, maintain, & improve processes for deploying Power BI reports & Dashboards.
  • Experience working with software & and service vendor resources and managing scope and activity on professional service engagements.
  • Familiarity with the software development life cycle (SDLC) model and one or more application development methodologies (i.e. Agile, Waterfall, etc.).
Possess a broad range of legal industry applications and related security & operational knowledge (application management, monitoring, troubleshooting, security & access controls, database administration, backup & recovery, DR, BCP, etc.) & systems development life cycle management experience in multiple technological platforms. * Senior-level experience with business requirements gathering & analysis, process and policy development/enforcement with a vision and strategy for continual improvement and Enterprise Governance for all Line of Business (LOB) applications.
  • Proficiency in the use of PowerShell and Scripting languages.
