- Design and maintain investment models, business plans, department budgets and integrate new assets into investment systems and the general ledger.
- Perform asset pricing and valuation across fixed income, derivatives, and other asset classes including monthly price setups using Bloomberg and Investment Technology data.
- Prepare LICAT capital components (FX and derivatives) and related regulatory and OSFI derivative disclosures, including collateral and counterparty market value analysis.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries, account reconciliations to support accurate financial close.
- Prepare financial reporting for general fund and segregated funds, including financial statements, cash flow reporting, portfolio reporting, note disclosures, and MIS entries.
- Prepare and review various schedules for input into the segregated fund semi-annual and annual reports.
- Manage private equity, infrastructure and real estate reporting, including capital contributions, distributions, pooling entries, funding transactions, and specialized quarterly and annual reporting packages.
- Support Par investment income and asset reporting, including dividend scale inputs, deferred realized gains tracking, and policyholder marketing materials.
- Prepare investment asset and income data to support income tax reporting, CIF analysis, financial statement notes, MD&A disclosures, and Board and committee materials.
- Support internal and external audits, regulatory reporting (OSFI, StatsCan), and DBRS rating processes through accurate analysis and documentation.
- Investigate pricing outliers, valuation discrepancies, and system issues, and support system enhancements, accounting changes, and regulatory initiatives.
- Develop and maintain accounting models, procedures, documentation, and internal controls to ensure compliance with IFRS, OSFI, and CLHIA requirements.
- Analyze and communicate drivers of investment performance and financial results to management and business partners, providing clear insights and recommendations.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and risk management.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to Financial Analysts and collaborate cross-functionally on complex accounting and reporting matters.
- Participate in department, division and company wide projects on an ad-hoc basis.
- CPA designation (or international equivalent) and post-secondary education in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, preferably within life insurance or financial services.
- Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, accounting standards and policies, and financial controls; insurance accounting knowledge is an asset.
- Sound understanding of actuarial concepts and how they interact with investment and financial reporting.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and prioritization skills, with the ability to assess business risk and apply sound judgment.
- Proficient working knowledge of finance and administration systems, including advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex financial information to diverse stakeholders.
