Arnett & Burgess is a Canadian energy sector pioneer focused on evolution and our longevity is directly tied to our people, committed to doing a good job from day one.When you join A&B, you join a family of passionate industry professionals dedicated to supporting your career development.Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for the timely and accurate compilation and reporting of accounting and financial information for both balance sheet and income statement accounts. The Senior Financial Accountant will play a pivotal role in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of business processes, policies and controls.Responsibilities.
  • Supervise and assist in the day-to-day accounting operations of the Finance Department ensuring accuracy of all financial information and reporting.
  • Prepare and input general ledger entries
  • Prepare and review balance sheet and profit/loss account reconciliations.
  • Perform capital asset accounting, reporting and reconciliation using JDE.
  • Manage daily cash activities including deposits, tax and bill payments, payment processing and cheque clearing.
  • Assist in the management of the Accounts Payable Department including vendor management, account reconciliation and completeness of month end cutoff for direct and indirect third-party costs.
  • Assist in the month end close process.
  • Monitor and review accounting procedures, policies and controls to ensure efficiency and security in financial processes.
  • Prepare financial reports as requested; divisional profit/loss statements, job analysis, and other financial reports needed by senior management.
  • Manage financial software for date accuracy and completeness provide recommendations for process improvement.
  • Provide support for insurance and risk management
  • Assist in the development and monitoring of cost center/divisional budgets
  • Collaborate with Controller to establish effective financial processes, procedures, and controls within the Company.
  • Participate in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of policies and administrative procedures and controls across the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Duties and responsibilities may be adjusted to reflect the needs of the department and the skills or experience of the successful candidate.
  • Ability to work irregular hours that may vary due to functions and may include day, evening, weekends and holidays.
RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance or Business from a recognized college or university; designation preferred.
  • At least 5-10 years' experience in financial management at a supervisory level or as senior advisor.
  • Overseeing specialized projects is considered an asset.
  • Proficient with all Microsoft office products.
  • Experience with JD Edwards; previous JDE ERP experience preferred – full accounting cycle.
  • Experience with project-based accounting.
  • Experience with accounting, presentation and word processing software.
  • Experience with ADP or similar payroll systems.

  • Ability to work under limited supervision and to interact with all levels of staff including management.
  • Highly developed skills and experience in business management, systems engineering, operations research, and management engineering.
  • Must embrace full spectrum of the professional attitude and environment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information is required.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrative knowledge of accounting theory and principles.
  • Capability to work in a faced paced, deadline driven environment.
