This includes providing support with fundraising initiatives and donor relations efforts aimed at nurturing and strengthening long-term relationships with donors, alumni, sponsors, volunteers, community members, industry partners and other key stakeholders.The Officer will foster a culture of philanthropy that enhances donor retention and deepens donor affinity with the institution. The primary goal of the Development Officer is to create meaningful engagement opportunities that promote philanthropy, volunteerism, and integration with NWP.This position offers high visibility and an opportunity to inspire confidence in achieving NWP’s strategic goals through active engagement. This Officer will be responsible for implementing strategic relationship-building initiatives to further advance these objectives.The successful candidate must be passionate about cultivating strong relationships with stakeholders.
The Development officer will contribute to achieving NWP's ambitious strategic plans as part of a highly engaged and dynamic team.Responsibilities of the position include, among others:
  • Coordinate all aspects of donor engagement programs, activities, and events.
  • Work with the Manager, Development & Alumni, and team, to create, coordinate, plan, and implement fundraising activities, including annual giving, payroll deductions, grant writing, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with all External Relations departments to determine unit communications goals and strategies and promote, create, and execute philanthropic development activities.
  • Coordinate the recognition and stewardship programs for alumni, donors, and sponsors.
  • Thoroughly prepare and carefully review all documents, accounts, and related materials to ensure that both new submissions and existing records are reviewed accurately and handled efficiently.

Skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
  • Organized with a proven record of accomplishment in customer service, building and maintaining relationships with supporters (donors, corporate partners, and other stakeholders interested in supporting post-secondary education).
  • Experience in face-to-face fundraising, event planning, sales, public relations, communications, finance, writing, and volunteer resource management is preferred.
  • Experience in public or alumni relations, an asset
  • Experience with social media as a strategic communications tool
  • Experience in Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission regulations and Canada Revenue Agency charities regulations
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Excellent soft and/or interpersonal skills and the ability to quickly develop professional relationships with donors, partners, students, employees, alumni, and stakeholders. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and suppliers.
  • Proven experience working in a complex, fast-paced environment.
  • Grant writing and/or other writing and editing experience is preferred.
