- Develop and validate durability criteria, service-life models, and exposure classifications; select materials and protective systems (concrete/shotcrete mix designs, SCMs, steel protection, grout, waterproofing, sealants, coatings) aligned with CSA (e.g., A23.1/A23.2, S6) and relevant ACI/ASTM/EN standards; and review submittals, supplier qualifications, mix trials, and mock‑ups.
- Plan and interpret laboratory and field testing (e.g., RCPT/bulk resistivity, chloride diffusion, carbonation, ASR mitigation, sulphate resistance, freeze–thaw, petrography, pull‑off adhesion, permeability/leakage, rebar corrosion/half‑cell) and translate results into clear recommendations, acceptance decisions, and corrective actions.
- Provide construction-phase support by responding to RFIs and site clarifications, troubleshooting material nonconformances, optimizing curing and placement practices, and verifying conformity through ITPs, batch plant oversight, production monitoring, and as‑built traceability.
- Contribute to risk and change management by documenting durability assumptions, tracking deviations, advising on lifecycle/maintenance implications, and preparing concise technical reports for clients and contractors.
- Master’s degree in civil engineering with minimum 6 years of demonstrated experience across Canada and overseas to lead durability design and materials engineering for civil infrastructure from design through construction and commissioning highly preferred.
- Strong communication, coordination, and digital documentation skills are essential, along with fluency in Canadian codes and international practices gained on overseas assignments.
- Experience bridging design intent to site execution, coaching field teams, and working flexibly in plant, lab, and active construction environments is highly valued.
