
Regulatory Compliance Advisor (Field Based)

- Manage and provide regulatory compliance leadership for capital projects advancing through provincial / territorial / federal environmental assessment and permitting processes and into construction. This includes working closely with ERM Partners and Project Managers to provide regulatory and compliance management support to clients, lead internal technical teams, and ensure the timely delivery of quality products that fully meet the client and regulator’s requirements.
- Lead engagement activities with regulators, Indigenous groups, communities, and stakeholders as part of the project design through construction planning phases.
- Provide technical input and guidance to team members on the application of regulatory and permitting requirements applicable to client projects, to develop technical expertise across sectors and regulatory jurisdictions.
- Execute activities such as compliance management scoping; construction readiness reviews; managing information requirements/requests; technical writing; researching and reviewing data and regulations/guidance; collecting and integrating input from ERM’s subject matter experts; advising on mitigation effectiveness and implementation; advise on drafting of permit and EAC conditions through EA and permitting processes; preparing environmental management plans and compliance management plans; working with clients to set up compliance management systems; leading compliance reporting and tracking; leading compliance audits through construction and early operations; delegating GIS, data compilation and desktop publishing assignments to support deliverables; and developing recommendations for clients.
- Build strong collaborative relationships with other ERM employees worldwide.
- Actively embrace and support ERM’s leading health and safety training and workplace environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, environmental management, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in environmental consulting, environmental and compliance management for major capital projects, or equivalent industry experience within relevant business sectors.
- Expert knowledge of compliance and enforcement regulatory frameworks for mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, and/or infrastructure sectors
- In-depth knowledge of federal, provincial, and territorial regulations and guidelines (in particular, familiarity with environmental assessment and permitting processes in British Columbia).
- Experience in the delivery of multifaceted permitting programs across a spectrum of sectors, primarily mining, but oil and gas, ports and marine, and renewables considered an asset.
- Excellent writing, communication, organization, time, and team management skills.
- The ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and inspire teams in a demanding work environment.
- Experience working and leading as part of an integrated team providing technical deliverables for input into regulatory applications and leadership throughout the application review.
- Demonstrated experience providing strategic guidance to support clients navigating the regulatory process.
- Demonstrated experience providing direction to client consulting teams regarding compliance requirements, tracking, and reporting to contribute to successful implementation of compliance activities.
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous groups, particularly in the context of regulatory processes, including the use of Indigenous knowledge in environmental management.
- Experienced with community and stakeholder engagement considered an asset.
- English is required and fluency in multiple languages (e.g., Indigenous languages, French) is an asset.
