- Deliver units to commercial vendors, operate a wide range of units to assist in diagnosis and repair
- Tows or drive defective automotive equipment to a repair shop
- Complete minor repairs to the entire range of City of Edmonton vehicles
- Assist journeyman mechanics in the repair of automotive and construction equipment
- Lubricate, transport and provide general service to the complete range of automotive, heavy truck, light truck, turf and small agricultural equipment, specialty units (ice resurfacer), construction equipment, components and attachments common to municipal and utility fleets
- Services and install batteries, light bulbs, lenses, fuses, signal light flashers, radiator, heater hoses, and windshield wiper blades as well as order parts for the jobs assigned
- Complete field servicing as assigned
- Visually inspects vehicle components such as tie rod ends, universal joints, brake hoses, exhaust systems, and oil and coolant systems for excessive wear or leaks and reports findings to a journeyman or foreperson
- Greet and assist customers in defining and identifying problems and obtaining services offered by the Branch
- Perform other duties as required
- Grade Ten (10) or equivalent
- Experience in servicing automotive vehicles and equipment
- Experience in towing and roadside assistance
- Wreckmasters Level 2-3 is considered an asset only if tech is working in our tow shop
- Capable of performing all related duties
- Proficiency in using Fleet Management System software (M5)
- Experience in software applications such as gmail
- Skilled in developing and maintaining strong working relationships
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of duties
- Good physical condition

- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- Hire is dependent on an Enhanced Security Check or /and may require a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Capable of passing a job-related physical abilities evaluation (F.A.R.E. test) and pre-employment City medical examination
- Valid Class 3 or Class 1 with air brakes certification (Q endorsement)
- Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- This role requires the ability to work in various environments, including exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and various weather conditions
