- Provides leadership to the Producer, Banff Centre Presents, the BISQ Competition and Festival Manager, and Program Coordinator, and collaborates with the Director, BISQ Competition and Festival.
- Working with the Producer, develop and manage event budgets including forecasting, resource allocation, revenue targets, and contingency planning including ensuring on-budget, or better, delivery of events. Liaison with Production, Marketing and Communications and other departments where applicable.
- Supported by the Producer, liaise with Managing Director, Program Operations, on departmental budgets, feasibility planning, rooming and venue availability.
- During planning, ensure that Banff Centre approved processes and departmental timelines are respected and proactively flag risks or constraints that may impact delivery.
- Negotiation of fees and terms for artists. Supervision of the contracting process undertaken by the Producer.
- Liaison with Development Department on grant opportunities and applications, and with Marketing on sponsorship opportunities.
- Oversee coordination with the Marketing, Communications, and Development teams to obtain information needed to ensure that public, media and donor engagement milestones are included in project planning, to deliver audiences and media, and steward funders.
- Develop and implement clear reporting and communication processes for event milestones, key deliverables, updates, and risk mitigation in consultation with the Executive Director. Determine appropriate information flows and convene regular cross-departmental meetings as required.
- Work with the Producer and other event staff to ensure that all events are presented to the highest standard and that artists have the best possible experience.
- Oversee the Producer in their responsibilities including contract administration, establishing project timelines, collaboration with other departments to ensure successful delivery of events, contractual processes with artists.
- Assume primary responsibility for managing approved event budgets, monitoring expenditures and sales revenue to deliver events on budget. Identify and communicate any material variances to the Executive Director, and liaise with the Managing Director, Program Operations to ensure accurate tracking and forecasting.
- Lead a regular process of events planning review and evaluation that ensures the highest ethical standards in project implementation activities and make recommendations as appropriate.
- Provide strong, values-based leadership to a diverse team of artistic, production, administrative, and programming staff.
- Ensure the respective roles, responsibilities, and deliverables of the Producer and Program Delivery Specialist (where assigned) and clearly defined, and that the resources required for successful event delivery are identified and aligned.
- Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop team members, establishing clear performance expectations, accountability measures, and succession planning to sustain organizational excellence.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and service-oriented culture that supports artistic excellence and exceptional artist, patron, and guest experiences.
- Promote continuous improvement, professional development, and high standards of performance across the team.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal partners, union representatives, artists, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless planning and delivery of events and festivals.
- Uphold fiscal, operational, and organizational integrity in all aspects of leadership and decision-making.
- 10+ years’ senior management experience
- University degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge network within national and global artist management touring/presentation fields
- Proven passion for arts across a wide range of performing arts disciplines
- Experience building audience loyalty and audience engagement strategies
- Experience and proven success with presenting festivals and events with background in both curatorial and commercial presenting
- Excellent strategic, planning, and project management skills
- Strong fiscal knowledge and data analysis ability
- Effective interpersonal skills used to build relationships, work cooperatively and interact with a range of stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking
- More than one language would be considered an asset
- In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
- The annual salary range for this position is between $82,455 and $122,451 based on experience.
- The successful candidate will enjoy twenty paid vacation days and four personal days annually, extended medical and dental benefits, and participation in an employer-matched pension plan.
- Some travel will be required in this position.
